One of the names for my modem router has stopped working.
NETGEAR C3700
Serial Number: 3KX24B72018C4
Purchase Date: Dec 19, 2014
My router/modem goes by two names, Netgear64 and Netgear64-5G. I have been using the latter, but today all of a sudden it doesnt work. I can however connect using the first name. Both names show "connection" when looking at Network Preferences on my iMac, but the "-5G: name does not give a connection. I have been running OS X El Capitan 10.11 for several months. I have cable with xfinity.

Both names show up in the wifi connection selection box. When "-5G" is selected the imac preference network window shows that it is "connected", but in actual fact when I try and use the connection to acces a web site, I get, after a timeout period, a " network not connected". The preference box will still show that the connection is there and strong. As soon as I change the wifi choice to just "netgear64", not the "-5G" a connection is established the the web site will come up.
Does this give you a clue as to what is going on?
