connecting router to modwm

i have the c3700 modem combo unit and i have the r6300 router. i was having issues getting these to connect and even had an it expert try and he could not get them to connect. so today i connected the r6300 via the yellow plug to the modem to one of the ports to the modem. then i turned off the modem and back on and it seemed to connect. i can actually see both units but can only log onto one at a time.

my issues is my tablet i have for viewing my  cameras jumps back and forth from the c3700 and the r6300 units. i can't have that as i do not have a steady view of them.

my phone does the samething. now i'm viewing the tablet and half the cameras are off even though in the background they say theya re on. so do i have to prot forward them on the r6300 router the same as the c3700 modem? or do i turn off the radio on the modem and only use the router for my wifi?

i have all the cameras connected to a network switch and then to the back of the modem not the router. so they should go to the internet directly from the modem, but the tablet and phones use the wifi to see them. can anyone tell me how i can get the tablet and phone to see the cameras steady? thanks

Huh?  Look at the product label on the device.  At "Model", does it
say "R6300" (equivalent to ""R6300v1") or "R6300v2"?  You should be able
to find the firmware version at the upper right side of almost any page
from the router's management web site ("routerlogin.net", et al.).

I don't know what "the site" means to you, or which "the procedure"
you followed, or what "locked out" means to you.  See "As usual, [...]",
above.

Once configured as a wireless access point, the R6300[vX] gets a new
LAN IP address, and those "routerlogin" names work only from a device
which is connected to the R6300[vX]-as-WAP, so, it can be a little
harder to access than it was as a full-function router.

That's one possible interpretation.  Another would be that your "an
it guy" doesn't know enough.  Many things are possible.

   A C3700 _is_ a modem+router ("combo unit").

   "R6300[v1]" or "R6300v2"?  Firmware version?

The way to begin this discussion/inquiry was to explain why you want
to connect the R6300[vX] to the C3700 modem+router in the first place.
I'll assume that you were trying to extend your wireless-network
coverage from what the C3700 alone provided, but feel free to disclose
the actual reason.

For an R6300v2, visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model
number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for
"Wireless Access Point (AP)".

According to the R6300[v1] User Manual, it doesn't offer a convenient
option for configuration as a wireless access point, but it could still
be done by adapting the step-by-step suggested here:

      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1463500

That's written for a C6300-as-WAP, but the steps are about the same for
any other router (any make/model) which lacks a one-step WAP option,
including (according to its User Manual), an R6300[v1].

> time. [...]

"can only" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.

Does that mean that "the tablet and phones use the wifi" of the
R6300[vX], as opposed to "the wifi" of the C3700?

If you configure the R6300[vX] as a WAP, then all your devices should
be on one, big (extended) LAN, and everyone should be able to talk to
everyone else.  (There are other possibilities for connecting these
devices, but that's likely the simplest one which will work as desired.)

i want the r6300 because i offers more channels. i have 26 items on the c3700 and that router drops the video feed from my cameras all the time. i connected the cameras to a network switch and that helps but about once a week i have to go in and move the channel around, so i was told by other on this site months ago i needed to get a larger router or combo.

i did got to the site and followed the procedure for attaching them and after i mad the r6300 an access point it got locked out. now my phone tells me it is disabled. and also my pc will not see it ether. so from what i'm learning here the r6300 is just a junk unit that shouldhave never been sold. it seem pointless to have a router that you can't connect to the internet. but thanks for the help. i'm going downstairs now and taking it off line and putting it on ebay if it fails to sell i'm tossing the thing in the garbage. it was a waste of time and money.  i even had an it guy try and he failed i got it to go and i'm not saying the it guy could not he just had the same issues as i did but being stubbern i tried one more time and this is what i got.

so my next step is to just get a combo unit and be done with it. no more trying to add a router to a combo unit. but thanks for the time you guys have spent trying to help.  this is a done deal. again thanks make it as solved.
