That isn't the answer to remedy the issue here. Especially after spending 200.00 on a product that isn't supported.

That isn't an answer but rather an excuse to bypass the real issues here.

Going out and spending more money on separate devices isn't a solution. Then why did Netgear make a product that you can't update in the first place?

No idea. Ask the people who offer cable internet. It seems to be their decision.

A little history here. Back before lots of you were born, you got all telephone equipment from Bell Telephone, loving called Ma Bell here in US. They would not allow anything other then their equipment to be connected. Some of this has to do with how will that brand x device work on their network? So easy way to control is just say no. At some point, do not remember when they allowed other devices to be connected. These still did not have the smarts of todays phones and modems. Jumping ahead the ISP's worry about their networks and what is on them, therefore the list of approved modems if you want to install your own. Now about updates. Think about this. You install an update on your modem that was not tested and approved by the ISP and the signalling or whatever is wrong and could potentially knock down their network. Don't think you would want to have your neighbor knocking down your Internet connection due to a faulty firmware update.

This is my reasoning as to why the ISP controls the updates. They have tested, probably, and also know when and where they pushed to update just in case there is an issue. For all we know the firmware that Netgear gives to the ISP is then taliored by the ISP for their network.

Hope this makes some sense.

Then who did? 😄

I'll never buy another Netgear or a combo ever again because of this.

They mislead and lied about their product. I've spent money on a paper weight and they get away with it.

They had to be ashamed for they did. No word of warning in box or any where else that states were not able to update.

Because of what they did ill never support this company again.

Can't ever talk or get a hold of support without them stealing more money from you for a crappy product.

Oh excuse me. Legal stealing / sham.

Not very good business practice when you sham your consumers into buying a product and not supporting and most importantly lying about it.

You need to rethink your marketing strategy here. Because after I tell people about what you pulled and reporting you to BBB people will listen and be heard.

So go ahead ignore us all. But in the long run I'll be sitting comfy in my lazy boy with my beautiful Linksys router is Asus while I see netgear going belly up because people are not buying your garbage.

Sad day netgear but had your chance. Don't lie about your product to make a buck. Above all help people don't ignore them.

You probably have good reason to be upset. And I doubt if anything will rescue Netgear in your eyes, but unless you can get your money back you have useless hardware on the shelf.

It isn't that often that it is impossible to rescue things. So if you are prepared to stick to the technicals, and ignore side issues like Netgear's support and the way in which ISPs screw up everyone by failing to update firmware  and to prevent the hardware makers from doing it, how about giving it one more fling?

Your complaints are valid but they are not something that the volunteers fellow users here can fix. So start another discussion (with a link to this one) with a detailed description of what the issues are and you might hit the jackpot.

A lot of that detail in in there somewhere, but we now have more than 30 messages, so it will be hard to home in on the key points. Give it a whirl. We may surprise you.

I have my own on here that I started. Take a look. 😀 I've got to the point where it's not even worth the time due to the fact they don't even respond to my threads. Its very aggravating when you can't get any help from both Netgear and your ISP.

I've done all I can do at this point. I am just going to stir people away from buying combo units because God forbid Netgear will warn people. Wouldn't want them to go broke now would we?

Oh But it's fine for them to sham us and take our money and sell us a worthless brick with fancy led lights.

Netgear needs to man up on this and make it right. Otherwise people are not going to buy their products. There is a lot of threads on here where people are loosing faith in netgear because of it.

Plain and simple they just do not care. I see that now.

Netgear wants us to support them and their product, then how about you start with supporting your fellow consumers that feed you and your families.

I am not charity. I don't hand out free money to people (companies) that don't deserve it. You want my support. Then start by supporting me. If it wasn't for people like us, Netgear wouldn't exist. Fact.

I did "take a look" but all I found is this discussion which is, like your latest message, essentially a string of rants about Netgear.

Likewise this one:

Re: Spectrum Ultra 400Mbits c7000 Slow 5G wifi - NETGEAR Communities

which again just piles on message after message of complaint.

As I said, there isn't much that the fellow users here can do about that. So I was suggesting another discussions that sticks to technical matters and that understands and accepts that neither Netgear or its users have any control over updates for cable modems.

By all means wage your war to put Netgear out of business, you are not the only one on that quest, but before you switch to a different brand.

When considering alternative makes, check them on the review sites and visit their support forums. Mostly you will find people with the same problems. The main difference with Netgear is that it has the busiest self-support group, with some staff people on hand.

Re: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/How-to-upgrade-firmware-for-c7000-cable-

You didn't see the thread i started where I asked the question as daren responded once but hasn't sense then. I did ask the questions I wanted to ask but not one other then Darren posted. As I asked another question after he responded and I am still waiting for a response and no one has sent me a single thing.

So I have giving them more then a chance to make good and as well as time for others to give me an answer.

I suggest you look at the thread i started unless it got deleted by Netgear.

Yes I did. That is why I put a link to it in the middle of my response.

Spectrum Ultra 400Mbits c7000 Slow 5G wifi - NETGEAR Communities

I can't find anything else, and if you can't be bothered to provide a link to it, fine.

That you missed even that obvious link tells us something about this saga and how hard it is to get through to you. You don't wait for replies before you jump in with yet more, mostly irrelevant, comments.

As I understand, your main beef is that your wifi is too slow.

I suspect that other users have not responded to you because your messages are all over the place and not always easy to understand with their blend of rant and minimal technical material.

Good luck.

Excatly, which is why netgear should be accountable not us.

Re: https://community.netgear.com/t5/Nighthawk-WiFi-Routers/How-to-upgrade-firmware-for-c7000-cable-

It means we shouldn't be fighting over about Netgear's issue. Its their problem and they need to fix their problem. Not us. It shouldn't be our responsibility to fix their problems. We don't get paid the big bucks.

Were not the ones ripping people off they are. I am not trying to fight with you. But it seems most of the comments your responding to seem a bit sarcastic.

I really don't care at this point. If you want to make such comments it's not going to change anything. I am not going to stop and out my head between my legs.

If people don't want to read my negative posts that's fine.

Again it's no sweat off my back really. I am not stopping and it isn't changing anything.

Now if Netgear would be so kind to check their forums once in awhile besides ignoring their public consumers you know the ones that pay their bills, and put food on the table for them to eat.

After all companies are not rich because of them. Their rich because of us buying their overpriced paper weight with no support garbage. While they laugh at our faces.

And yet we do nothing while they get richer.
