Netgear LTE Mod: MBR1515L
We are a museum ship. We get underway and visit various cities. We use our cellular modem for banking transactions while away from our home port.
The modem is located physically inside the ship so an external antenna is necessary. Using about 50 ft of LMR400 to an omi-directional antenna. The board ask if I could put the antenna up about 20ft higher away from other metal structures. This would require about 50 more ft of coax .with an N connectors splice.
Two questions: LMR400 has a loss of 4db/100 ft. the splice about 0.5db loss. The antenna has a posted gain of 3.5 db.
Would the loss in the greater length of coax make the move not practical?
Second. since the modem has two antenna inputs, would running a second antenna higher than the first be an advantage? (still about 100ft. +/- of coax?
I tried calling Netgear bu they want me to purchase extra warranty to talk to me so no luck there.
