Netgear Nighthawk M1 support for edge (2g)

Dear people,

I've bought a Nighthawk M1 (unlocked). We live on Madagascar and in many bigger towns there is 3G and sometimes 4G. The router works fine there (both with Orange and Telma).

However, I would like to be able to use the router in the rural areas as well. The rural place do have reception but mostly on Edge (2G).

Is there a way to make this router work with 2G as well? That would be great because now I have to keep my phone charged all the time which can be a challange here. The router has a great battery so that would be brilliant to have it working with 2G.
