Nighthawk mr6500 with at&t

I bought this router through at&t and I am really confused on how it works. It has a sim card in it which was assigned a phone number. When I got it I set it up at the store only the default password didn't work but the att rep typed in a different password and then it worked. If I did a factory reset the default password doesn't work and I'm curious as to why. Is this a password that is not meant for me and it's meant for att only?

This router, the MR6500, is not one of the standard routers covered on this section. It is a "Mobile Router".

While many questions about routers are generic and could be answered anywhere, some things need specialist knowledge.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Mobile Routers, Hotspots & Modems

Those things are very different from the standard Netgear routers covered in this section.

You might like to search there for messages related to your problem.

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

That may explain that there are different passwords for most devices, depending on what  you are doing. One for getting into the device itself and the other for connecting it to the Internet.
