Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

So I tried the v102 SPC "Upgrade to NG SPC" button option, I didn't download the app they recommended however after applying v102, Parental controls seems to be moved to the Basic Tab under Attached Devices:

SmartParentalContolsv102.png

And Circle seems to be supported as well on v102:

CircleContolsv102.png

v104 was displayed as a notification on the RBRs web page:

v104Overv102.png

Selected Update ALL. v104 was applied from the Auto update services. RBR rebooted.

Parental controls seems to be moved to the Basic Tab under Attached Devices and Circle is supported and enabled on v104:

I'm running v104 and have had access to Parental Controls through each upgrade.  It still shows up under Basic as well as advanced.

I don't see these options. Mine is RBK50 v2

I remember saying "don't ask me again" or something like that to a nag screen once after installing 2.7.2.104.  Maybe thats why those are gone?

I don't want the features .. so I'm not inclned to factory reset just to find out.

You may have disabled those when you say don't bother me again at the nag screen. I do the same thing but since everyone was asking about this, now we know. Its there. Smiley Wink

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

I did the update via the app as a part of the new install (my orbi is less than a week old). No nagging screens. Really werid that parental controls got removed when NG still advertises them. I specifically purchased RBR50 because of Circule parental controls. NG support is not really helpful.

What is a good way to go from 2.7.2.104 to the latest firmware that has Circule enabled ? Is it possible to un-hide Circule  from 2.7.2.104?

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

My problem was that I enabled the Netgear Parental Controls on the latest firmware 2.7.2.104, and it removed Circle.  Netgear Parental Controls don't seem to appear anywhere in the interfaces (web / android), and I couldn't find any way to get Circle back.

I downgraded the firmware to 2.7.2.102, then to 2.7.1.60, and Circle won't come back.  I downgraded further to 2.6.1.40, and Circle came back.  I hope that helps.

I'm going to stay at that firmware until Netgear gets their act together on their parental controls offerings.

Did you manually apply v102 or use Orbi app to update the system?

I manually downloaded FW files and manually applied them using MS Edge on my RBR50.

Be sure that your looking at the Basic tab for "Parental Controls"

Try a factory reset on the RBR and setup the RBR from scratch. Circle is there from what I found yesterday. Be sure that your looking at the Basic tab for "Parental Controls"

I was using MS Edge as the browser yesterday.

@pinecone123

So heres what I did on my Android tablet with the Orbi app then followed the prompts to enable Circle while the tablet was connected to my RBR50 with v104 FW loaded and it seems to be enabled and now working. I signed up for a trial period is all. That appears to be the crux of the matter. (crux?) I have 2.7.2.104 on my Orbi and the Orbi "app" for Android, but neither the web interface nor the "app" display Parental Controls.  (not the original Disney Circle nor whatever the "new" Netgear Parental Controls introduced last August are)

Doesn't bother me because I do not need or want Parental Controls. But, for someone who does want them, this situation is unacceptable.

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

Thanks for your help, but it does not work somehow. I used the 1st generation CIrcule app on my Android phone. It shows that my router is supported, when I gave admin credentials, it showed me "request failed" after some time. I see no error in Orbi's log. Is there some security setting that needs to allow this to happen?

I get the same thing when trying the Circle first gen app.  But to make clear, I don't want to use the Circle App.  I want to use the latest thing they offered, Smart Parental Control.

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

Well, one may need to start at v102 or even back to v40. I actually noticed the Parental Controls UI changed sometime after v40 was loaded, it is present there. I then manually updated and manually loaded v102 and parental controls are still present. I did the Update ALL to let the RBR apply v104 as it was seen as a notification in the FW update on the RBR.

I used MS Edge for applying the different versions of FW to see what appears and showed. I do believe NG moved PC under basic tab sometime after v70 from under the Advanced tab/Security. You can follow the trail I followed when loading different versions of FW to see where the changes are.

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

I believe I had the RBRs web page parental controls enabled first. Just enable the slider button on the RBRs web page.

I then connected my Android tablet to the RBR50s web page. Opened Orbi app first, not the circle app. Log into the RBR50 using the Orbi app then was presented with the screen captures I took while walking thru the setup process to get Circle going.

You might post over in the Circl forum if you can't get this going for you.

I would contact NG support about how to get NG Smart Parental Controls work on Orbi app.

From the looks of it, Smart Parental Controls still uses the Circle app:

Smart Parental Controls does use the Circle 1st Gen app.  I still use it.  My daughter is grounded right now and I am able to block all social media, Youtube, and any other site that she ventures to instead of doing her classwork/homework.

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

The only solution I found so far is to downgrade to V2.6.1.40.

RBK50 2.6.1.40

Once you are on this firmware, you'll have Parental Control (Circle) with you again.

I have tried to upgrade through web UI or manually load the firmware to v102 or v104, in all cases Parental Control will disappear. Not only Circle but also the standard parental control cannot be found. I think there are some logical problems in NG tech team about how to migrate Circle users to NG SPC.

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

I'm at 2.7.2.104 and have reset orbi to factory twice.  once i tried to connect to circle before setup asks to change password and that still doesn't help.

Is Netgear going to provide a fix for all its users or continue to falsely claim that their product is compatible?  Sounds like a class-action to me.

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

I think after v102 is loaded you have to select the Upgrade to NG SPC button. Thats what I did after v102 was manually applied, the RBR did a reboot and PC was there, however now at the Basic Tab level. IT's no longer under Advanced tab/Security after 40. After that  I was able to update to v104. PC is still there and CIrcle is enabled to manage the devices.

Re: Missing parental controls on firmware v.2.7.2.104

I think only some of lucky users like you still have the Parental Control on the menu after upgrading to v102.

For our cases, Parental Control is totally removed, on both web UI and Apps, needless to say upgrading to NG SPC.

There should be something wrong with NG's firmware that created this problem.

My comment is, if Circle is essential for us, just stay at v40 until NG release another new update.

Don't waste time to try upgrade/downgrade/upgrade/downgrade to see if PC showed again. I've spent a day to do it.

If you are lucky users and still see PC in v102/v104, then you don't need to reference to this thread. Smiley Very Happy
