HOWTO: Enhanced monitoring of RN312 using Monitorix
(note: this should work on Intel based ReadyNAS model, not only the RN312)
The built-in monitoring of the RN series of NAS is pretty nice, but not as complete as that provided by some other software kits. Looking for an easy-to-install solution, I went with Monitorix.
Installation was quick and painless, and gives graphs like the following: http://flic.kr/ps/2wrPnc. (btw, isn't it possible to use in-line images in this forum? Can't get it to work..)

Re: HOWTO: Enhanced monitoring of RN312 using Monitorix
Turned out that the Monitorix database and log files were placed on the root partition, which is pretty small... when it started to get full I got a warning message from the NAS (nice feature, btw!).
Moving those files to a larger partition is easy though, full writeup at http://goo.gl/XUmoeW.

Re: HOWTO: Enhanced monitoring of RN312 using Monitorix
you must recolate the logs in /data/app_name or in /apps/app_name/logs if you have made an addon

Re: HOWTO: Enhanced monitoring of RN312 using Monitorix
Does it have to be either of those paths?
Does the system look for them there specifically, for will any path work (as long as each addon is configured to log to that particular directory)?
Nothing wrong with placing the logs in your suggested directories, I am just curious how it works. 🙂

Re: HOWTO: Enhanced monitoring of RN312 using Monitorix
By design an Addon must be in /apps/addons_name

Re: HOWTO: Enhanced monitoring of RN312 using Monitorix
Ahhh, but does that also apply to apps installed from command line, e.g. apt-get install monitorix ?
I.e. a standard linux install, rather than the Netgear Apps concept.

That's the way you can display addons in frontview and you can preserve space on /
