Cannot access routerlogin.net using DM200 on BTInfinity 2

Hi so I'm trying to setup a Netgear DM200 Modem and change it to Modem only mode so it can then work with our Nighthawk router, however when I try to connect to routerlogin.net or routerlogin.com the page cannot be displayed. We are connected to BT Infinity 2.

The goal of this is to replace the BT Home Hub 5 with the DM200 acting as a modem only, and the NightHawk as the router.

The supplied "VDSL" filter that came with the DM200 does not fit our telephone points however we do already have an ADSL filter on our phone line. This filtered phone line cable is then put into the modem's DSL port, and the only remaining port is then connected to the Window's laptop ethernet port which I then try to access routerlogin.net using this laptop.

The very strange thing about all this is that I was attempting to access the page which very briefly worked for a minute but before I could apply any changes to the model the page then was unable to load.

I've tried resetting the modem to factory default by holding down the reset button for five seconds.

I've tried accessing the default gateway ip address of the modem by looking at the devices listed in ipconfig.

Am I doing something wrong here?  Am I supposed to keep the BTHomeHub connected or powered on and connected to the Modem in some way?

According to the User Manual (page 69, "Disable the Modem's Routing
Features and Use the Modem as a DSL Modem Only"):

      http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/DM200/DM200_UM_EN.pdf

      IMPORTANT:
After you disable the modem's routing features and the modem
functions as a DSL modem only, you can access the modem only
through a fixed IP address, which is 192.168.5.1. Therefore,
make sure that IP address 192.168.5.1 is not assigned to another
        device on your network.

As usual, showing (copy+paste) the actual "ipconfig" output might be
more helpful than a vague description or interpretation of it.

Which IP address(es), exactly, did you try in your Web browser?  Was
any of them 192.168.5.1?  (And, if any was 192.168.5.1, then what was
the computer's IP address at that time?  And if the Web browser gave
some error message, then what was that?)

Re: Cannot access routerlogin.net using DM200 on BTInfinity 2

As I was unable to access routerlogin.net, I couldn't switch the dm200 into modem only mode yet, so I suspect that it was causes the problem when I connect the modem to the nighthawk router.

I'll connect everything back up and post a ipconfig copy and paste.

I've used the factory reset pin buttons on both the nighthawk and the dm200 modem router.

I tried routerlogin.net, routerlogin.com and 192.168.5.1

When I put the nighthawk into bridged mode and connect the modem to it, 192.168.5.1 is the ip of the modem.

I've also tried flushing the dns and restarting the laptop.

I can get into the nighthawk just fine however it obviously doesn't have DSL port hence the need for the DM200 as the DSL model.

Ok.  And this is with what connected to what?  I'll guess that it's
with the computer connected to the DM200.  If so, then 192.168.5.1
should get your Web browser to the DM200 Web page.

You lost me there.  What is the actual model number of "the
nighthawk"?

Re: Cannot access routerlogin.net using DM200 on BTInfinity 2

Yes that's the laptop connected to the DM200 via an ethernet lan cable to it and the laptop's WiFi disabled.

Trying both IP addresses 192.168.5.1 and 192.168.5.3 did not work.

The Nighthawk Model is the R7800.

   Ok.

192.168.5.3 is your Windows laptop, so that's not amazing.  What kind
of "did not work" happened with 192.168.5.1?  In a Command Prompt
(CMD.EXE) window, what does "ping 192.168.5.1" do?

If your laptop is getting its DHCP info from the DM200, which seems
to be true, then I'd expect the Web interface (at 192.168.5.1) to work,
too.  And the "ipconfig" report still shows a healthy "Ethernet adapter
Ethernet" with some 192.168.5.x address?  Time for one more reset of the
DM200?

Re: Cannot access routerlogin.net using DM200 on BTInfinity 2

Can't get rid of the impression we have another vicim of the DM200 customr discovering the DM200 in Modem mode does _not_ work as a fully transparent modem especially for Internet/DSL -> Router connections. They do some kind of L2 bridging/filtering/"routing" - and this does prohibit iconing connectionf from the Internet to a router (or any other system) connected on the router, the LAN port .....

@ChristineT ... any update beyond of the DM200 1.0.0.44 firmware?
