I have both modem / routers available for use. I am currently using the 7550 where i get 3.5mbps download speed coming to the house and then 2.8mbps. Is there a better modem / router to be using or should I use of the ones that I have? Thanks

A new modem is unlikely to improve internet speed. But you may be able to improve things by asking your ISP if there are settings you can tweak.

What does this mean? I do not know. The 7550 is a much older unit. The D2200D is a June 2016 unit. How do the units compare to one another? Would an install of the newer unit be better because it is newer? I am adding equipment to my house that offers WiFi connectivity. Is the bandwidth different with each unit? Connectivity and speed are my issues. I am looking for solutions that will work.

I am not certain about this, but Frontier, my ISP provides the modems at no charge to me. They have offered to assist me in making the switch. Maybe I ask the question that has been offered "what tweeks can be made by installing the newer unit"?

   These models are sold through ISPs, not retail channels, and my quick
attempts to find any real specifications yielded little, making a
comparison difficult. Perhaps you can get some useful information from
the ISP.

   Both seem to be low-end models, and with slow DSL service, it's not
obvious that you'd see much difference, unless the wireless capabilities
of the units differ substantially. And that would likely affect only
intra-LAN communication, with your DSL service being the bottleneck for
any communication with the outside world.

The 7550 was a POS router/modem netgear sold to telcos who were too cheap to buy decent kit. It was used by Frontier, ATT, Comcast and others. Only Frontier contiues to use it but that's to be expected since Frontier is the old General Telephone whose service was worse than two tin cans and a string. Not only do other telcos no longer use it, but Netgear does not support it and basically won't even admit it ever existed. That speaks volumes when a compnay completely dumps one of its own products.
