D1500 Fails to reconnect to Internet without a Reboot?
Hello Netgear Community
I installed a new D1500 modem/router a few weeks ago to replace an old router I had.
Since then I have noticed that often when my connection drops I look at the Genie Advanced Tab (via the browser interface) and it shows that the Modem is still connected (bottom left box) but that the Internet Port is disconnected (top right box) .
The router then does not always seem to reconnect by itself, as I would expect it to.
I have tried using the "Connect" button on the “Connection Status” pop-up window but it does not seem to do anything (nor does “Disconnect’ button do anything when the connection is active), is this a bug in the Genie interface?
I then have to Reboot the router and it then reconnects the Modem and the Internet Port straight away after the reboot.
I have the latest Firmware: V1.0.0.18_1.0.1UK and Hardware: D1500-100UKS-A.
I am in the UK and connected using DSL via a traditional copper line to my local phone exchange, which is about 2 miles away, my ISP is Plusnet. Due to the distance I normally only get around 2Mbps download and 500Kbps upload speeds. As I live in a rural area there is currently no fibre alternative. In the past I have had problems with a noisy line causing frequent disconnects and drops in line speed. However after a couple of recent visits by a BT engineer to repair the line this issue seems to have been fixed.
Any help or advice on how to fix or further investigate this problem would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance Basil

Hello basilbrooks
You may want to try to lower your MTU a little bit here is a article talking about that.

Re: D1500 Fails to reconnect to Internet without a Reboot?
Hello Darren
Thanks very much for the reply, its currently set to 1458 which is the maximum allowed on my router model (D1500).
If I try to change it to anything greater I get "Invalid MTU value, valid range is 616 to1458".
I have dropped it to 1400 for the moment and will see if that helps. My ISP which is PlusNet says I should use 1500.
Can you please explain why you suggest dropping the MTU in this case?
Thanks Again
Basil

Lowering the MTU doesn't seem to have any effect on my problem, must be something else?
Thanks Basil Brooks
