I've noticed that when in modem only mode the options for typing in your ISP's credentials aren't there but they are while in modem + router mode.
Has anyone encountered this problem before and if so, how did you resolve it.

Thanks for the quick reply, my ISP does use PPPoE.
I'm currently looking at entering those credentials via the router setup.
I have found that it is easier to set up the D6400 as a modem router before converting it to modem-only mode.
Get that working, then throw the router-off "switch" in the browser graphical user interface.
When you have done that go through the usual setup process.
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
- Turn off and unplug modem.
- Turn off router and computers.
- Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
- Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it connect.
- Turn on computers and rest of network.
Then you are in a position to configure the router.
A word of warning about using the D6400 in modem only mode. When i did that my network failed to reconnect after power cuts. The D6400 took so long to connect that the devices behind it timed out because there was no Internet there to connect to.
In the end I replaced the D6400 with a DM200, a modem only box. But these are now all but impossible to find as new devices. I ended up buying a second from one of those "open box" outlets. What turned up looked suspiciously new, as if Netgear had dumped its inventory on a reseller.

If your ISP uses PPPoE, then that is handled by your router -- either
the router section of the D6400-as-(modem+)router or the router used
with the D6400-as-modem-only.

Not I, but that doesn't mean that I don't understand it.
