DGN2200v3: "Block Sites" functionality not working

The "Block Sites" functionality of my newly-purchased DGN2200v3 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router does not work. I have tried everything I can think of but to no avail:
- I have Keyword Blocking set to "Always".
- I have added keywords such as "facebook", "facebook.com", "google.co.uk", and even ".", but everything is allowed through.
- I have "Allow trusted IP address to visit blocked sites" unchecked.
- All websites are allowed through, regardless of settings.

Firmware Version V1.1.00.24_1.00.24
GUI Language Version V1.0.1.1

I have upgraded to the latest firmware version and rebooted the router several times, but nothing seems to work.

Please advise.

Re: DGN2200v3: "Block Sites" functionality not working

Hello Jimixter,

I recently configured my R7000 to block Facebook just to test it out. It took 20mins for it to kick in. for what reason, I have no idea. I Put settings back to default and it took about 20mins to kick it. I would suggest configuring the settings and waiting about 20mins and then try accessing the website to see if it works.

Re: DGN2200v3: "Block Sites" functionality not working

Thank you for your response, and to some extent you were right - after some 20mins or so we have seen "Netgear - page blocked" errors when trying to access pages with (e.g.) "facebook.com" in the page content on our smartphones. However, I have been able to access Facebook on the laptop with no issues whatsoever. I really cannot see how this is working, it is pretty hopeless. The Facebook apps all work on the smartphones fine too (I suspect this uses different ports, but surely requests to the domain should be blocked...)

Re: DGN2200v3: "Block Sites" functionality not working

I see something similar in the log of my WNR3500L2v, but it appears to be more or less random. Although any site containing the word "doubleclick" should be blocked, sometimes access is granted.
My guess is that it has to do with traffic density (?)

Re: DGN2200v3: "Block Sites" functionality not working

Thank you for your response. I've given up on the DGN2200v3 and sent it back for a full refund. The advanced features of my free EE router are more reliable.

Its a shame the Netgear firmware developers couldn't have invested a little more time in their testing.

Re: DGN2200v3: "Block Sites" functionality not working

I had the same problem couldn't add sites to the blocked list. I got assistance from the Netgear online assistant and the answer was simple. It was not working in Microsoft IE. I logged in using Firefox and it works great. Thanks Netgear online support.

Hello. I have the same issue on DGN2200v4: after I upgraded to last firmware, site blocking started to work but it cannot block https sites! So, https://youtube.com will always work.... To try to block youtube, block this: googlevideo.com l.google.com m.youtube.com youtu.be youtube.com ytimg.com

Re: DGN2200v3: "Block Sites" functionality not working

This is limitation for NETGEAR block sites feature that it does not block HTTPs websites. As you can see if you block google.com then access is via http://google.com the site is blocked but if you access it via https://google.com, you can access it. I suggest you use the LPC feature of NETGEAR routers.
