DGN2200v4 + XWN5001: router loses path to a device that switches BSSID
Hello everyone,
In my setup I have a DGN2200v4 working as modem + router + AP, and an XWN5001 to extend wifi coverage (same subnet and SSID) to other areas of the apartment. Both devices have latest firmware.
My issue, happening consistently for quite some time, is the following:
1) A device, say a laptop, boots and connects to wifi of XWN5001, let's call it BSSID1.
2) It then moves to an area covered by the wifi signal of DGN2200v4, and connects to it, to BSSID2.
3) At this point, the laptop CAN NOT access anymore ANY device connected to BSSID1: no tcp, no udp, no ping.
The issue can be bypassed if and only if:
- laptop moves again to the area of BSSID1 and connects to it, in which case it can contact correctly any device connected to BSSID1 and BSSID2, or:
- DGN2200v4 is rebooted.
I have tried with different laptops and different OSes, with both fixed IPs and DHCP for all devices, with no results.
By using tcpdump under Linux and Mac OS X and looking at ICMP and ARP packets, it seems that:
- if laptop (in BSSID2) tries to contact a device X (in BSSID1), its request gets to destination, throught both DGN2200v4 and XWN5001.
- when X sends its reply, the packets stop at DGN2200v4.
This makes me think that the problem lies in the router, which probably still tries to route packets to laptop through XWN5001, whereas laptop is now connected to BSSID2 of router itself.
You can imagine that when a laptop moves to the "wrong" part of the house, half of the network is inaccessible to it, and that rebooting the router to fix it causes big disruption.
Anyone experiencing the same?
Netgear support, any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
Best,
JJ
