Nighthawk D7000 Heatsink

Hi, Can anyone confirm if there should be a heatsink in the D7000 Nighthawk? I have seen images of the main board of the R7000 from which I can see there is a heatsink in the base of the unit for the chipset, however in my D7000 there is none, however the two boards are very different. I ask as I am having issues with my router which at hte moment I think are possibly caused by heat. Thanks in advance.

Hello saturn5

Do you have the router in a open area with nothing stacked on top of it?

Re: Nighthawk D7000 Heatsink

Hi Darren, I have recently bought to thermal adhesive pad and have bonded a heatsink to the broadcom chip. I have the router on it's side witht it's lid off and a 92mm fan blowing across the heatsink. The router now seems to be stable but it's early days. The chip has never really got too hot to touch but heat is the only thing I can think thats making the router freeze up intermittently. Not enough info on the web regarding this model - yet!

Hello saturn5

If your modem is getting to hot I would suggest contacting support if the modem is still under warranty.

Re: Nighthawk D7000 Heatsink

Hi, Netgear support are of little use. As mentioned, I believe a heatsink is missing from my router for some reason. If you read here: "http://forum.kitz.co.uk/index.php/topic,15601.30.html" it mentions a heatsink for the D7000. I will carry on with my trials, I have ordered a cheap netbook cooler to sit the router on,  this combined with the heatsink  I have fitted should do the trick. Regards

You can see internal pictures of everything from FCC filings

Hi Richud, thanks for the reply, unfortunately I cannot open the link for some reason. Maybe you could screen grab and post a pic of the mysterious heatsink?

Thanks.
