Unable to Update Firmware

Network Genie (routerlogin.net), the Netgear website and the Nighthawk phone app all indicated that a firmware update is available.  But when I try to update, I get a message saying "no upgrade is available".

My current version is 1.0.2.54_1.0.56 per Netgear genio (routerlogin.net)

The available upgrade is 1.0.2.136 per the Netgear websit

But again Network Genie first tells me an upgrade is available, but when i push the upgrade button it shows no upgrade is available.

Please help.

   "try" _how_, exactly?

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Downloads.  (For older versions, under Firmware and Software
Downloads, look for "View Previous Versions".)  Find the kit(s).
Download the kit(s) you want.  Read the "Release Notes" file for
instructions.  (In the User Manual, look for "firmware", and,
especially, for a topic like "Manually Upload Firmware to the Router".)
When that fails because of a deficient User Manual, try:

Hello antinode,   I'm updated Now, but another problem:...

Hello antinode,

I'm updated Now, but another problem:

Doing the manual update using the info at "How do I manually update the firmware on my NETGEAR router?" that you sent worked!!  I'm now updated to the latest firmware version, as far as I can tell . Thank You.

But can you help with the problem that prompted me to update my firmware?  The problem is that I'm getting 200+ Mbps speed to/thru my modem, but only 36 Mbps speed thru my Nighthawk R8500 router.  When I plug my computer directly into the modem I get 200+ speed per Ookla.  But then when I plug my computer into the router (ethernet) I only get 36 Mbps.  Same slow speed over my WIFI. So it appears that my router is delivering only 18% of what my modem is providing.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks so much,
Flint

Re: Unable to Update Firmware

antinode,

Quick update:  I turned off QoS and my computer that is ethernet-connected hot up from 36 to 235Mbps, wow.  However my phone is at 66 and my wifi-connected computer is still at 36.

Any thoughts on speeding up my wifi-connected devices?

Thanks,

What are these devices?  Which radio band does each use?

Get faster devices?  Why blame the router?  Do these devices get
higher speeds when connected to some other router?  A Web or forum
search for terms like the following might find some wisdom:

      R8500 slow

There is some confusion here as to what devices you are talking about. Take this bit:

Your "footer" has tagged the R8500, but you have put your message in the section dedicated to DSL Modems & Routers. The R8500 isn't one of them. The place to ask about them is here:

Nighthawk WiFi Routers

No matter, but if you want more detailed insights, you could tell people what the modem is in front of the router.

When it comes to your wifi speeds, that's down to the stuff you connected. If you dig out an ancient mobile phone and connect it to the fastest wifi service on the planet, it will not suddenly upgrade the phone's technology and catch up with the router. In the same way that connecting the fastest phone you can buy to a 20th century wifi source will not be magically faster.

It might be worth a bit of background reading.

Understand Wi-Fi 4/5/6 (802.11 n/ac/ad/ax)

@duckware knows their stuff and can bust a few myths and cut through marketing hype.

The big question is about the experience you get. Don't worry about speed tests, is the wifi fast enough to do what you want?
