nighthawk (R7000) D7000 AC1900 wifi speeds are SLOW
nighthawk D7000 AC1900 on ATT DSL; the wifi speeds on either wifi band are very slow with long page load times on both PC & iPad;
a speed test via Netgear site via Genie says paltry 45.6Kbps download
SpeedTest says 2.5 Mbps up 0.4 down
yet when i do a FastSpeed Test on my PC, it tests at it's ATT advertised 2.4 Mbps down, 1.2 up -
?? ideas to solve the wifi slowdown ??
- firmware is 1.01.70 (Genie says model is D7000)

Not the latest.
Start there:
D7000 Firmware Version 1.0.1.84 - NETGEAR Support
This is the easiest way to go about it:
How do I manually upgrade firmware to my NETGEAR router? | Answer | NETGEAR Support

What is this "speed test via Netgear site via Genie"?
What genie? (That's a label that Netgear has used for various things.)
What speeds do you get with a wired connection?
Is this it?
yet when i do a FastSpeed Test on my PC, it tests at it's ATT advertised 2.4 Mbps down, 1.2 up -
That looks like ADSL speeds. At those speeds, I'd expect pages to take for ever to load.
The SpeedTest app for Windows is a pretty good tool.

had trouble logging onto the thing - finally discovered to simply use the IP address instead of the netgear recommended routerlogin.net .com
firmware just updated - will report back if it changes anything
yes that is ADSL speeds - ATT DSL is what i got & no other options except cellular

Don't know, but perhaps you could put the D7000 in modem only (transparent bridge mode) and get a nice router to put behind the D7000.

Good idea.
Just one word of warning, when I put a DSL modem.router into modem mode it caused problems after power cuts.
The modem took so long to connect that the router timed out waiting for the Internet signal. I ended up with a dead network. No problem if you are around to restart things, but bad if you are not there.
I ended up buying a coupe of modem only (DM200) boxes. Sadly, Netgear, and most brands have since abandoned the DSL modem market. Easy to see why when this is a dying technology and the remaining DSL ISPs like to inflict inflexible modem/routers on customers.
