"AC1600" is a speed, not a model number. Ever helpful, Netgear
product packaging emphasizes speeds like "ACxxxx", but that's not the
model identifier. Look at the product label for the actual model
number.

Is that accurate? "cable modem" normally implies cable-TV, not DSL.
To maximize confusion, Netgear has started using things like "AC2100"
as model numbers on a few models, so you can't rely on much other than
the product label.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number
("AC2100"), and look for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look for
"Set Up the Router as a WiFi Access Point".

Run the experiment?
I'd expect the same SSID(s) on both devices to be ok, especially if
you can't detect the signal from both in either building.
