AC1600 cable modem router and AC2100 router

I live in a metal siding house and have a metal shed about 20ft away. I have AC1600 WiFi cable modem router and 100 Mbps service. I have no signal outside my house or in my shed so I ran a cable from house to shed and installed a Nighthawk AC2100 router in shed. How do I set it up to extend my house signal into my shed?

"AC1600" is a speed, not a model number.  Ever helpful, Netgear
product packaging emphasizes speeds like "ACxxxx", but that's not the
model identifier.  Look at the product label for the actual model
number.

Is that accurate?  "cable modem" normally implies cable-TV, not DSL.

To maximize confusion, Netgear has started using things like "AC2100"
as model numbers on a few models, so you can't rely on much other than
the product label.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number
("AC2100"), and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Look for
"Set Up the Router as a WiFi Access Point".

Re: AC1600 cable modem router and AC2100 router

Ok I have a (AC1600 wifi cable modem router model # C6250) in my house. Ran a cable to my shed where I have a (AC2100 smart WiFi router model # AC2100) I got WiFi to work in the shed but I set up a new SSID. My question is can I have the same SSID on both or do I have to have another SSID? I’m just wanting the router in shed to work as an extension of my house like a repeater or extender. For example if house SSID is “1234” can I set the router in shed up to be “1234” also or does it need its own SSID like “5678”?

   Run the experiment?

I'd expect the same SSID(s) on both devices to be ok, especially if
you can't detect the signal from both in either building.

Re: AC1600 cable modem router and AC2100 router

I’m not home right now so will check tomorrow but I can pick up a signal from both in certain spots but it’s weak and doesn’t switch back to the stronger signal automatically. For instance if I’m in shed on SSID “5678” and walk back into house I just have a weak signal and doesn’t switch back over to house SSID “1234” because it still has signal from router in shed.
