I've been using ACL's for a long while, even using the latest firmware. That was until today, I added a new device using the android app and suddenly the ACL's prevented ALL connected devices from accessing the internet even though the ISP connection was fine.

I then attempted to connect hard wired and was still presented with the "This device is blocked by access control in the router"

So I have had to reset the router several times, reload my config and retest... Still not working so I've had to diable using ACL's

Anyone got any tips or advice?

What firmware version do you have on the device?

A number is more useful than "the latest". (It may not be by the time people read this.) There can also be newer versions, or "hot fixes", that do not show up if you check for new firmware in the browser interface.
