Why?  If there is some actual problem which you are trying to solve,
then you should reveal it, rather than asking how to implement some
particular "solution" to that problem.  (Especially when what you want
to do is impractical/impossible.)

> [...] how is this done please?

   I doubt that there's a practical way.

I don't see any way, either.  Nor have I seen a way on any other
Netgear router.

An actual version number would be more useful than your opinion of
what's "up to date" today.

Re: Change router port

By the latest firmware i mean the latest available firmware on Netgear's firmware download page for my router...1.0.0.52

Is this not the latest firmware?

V1.0.0.52_1.0.1 seems to be the latest, but that's the least
important pending question.

Re: Change router port

i am at a total loss to your reply, i came on here to ask the question if/how i could change the D7000v2 router port from 80 to 8082 not to debate what is or is not the latest firmware or the "important pending question", i thought the Netgear community would be helpful.

I may know how you feel.

   I'll try again...

I quit worrying about your firmware version as soon as you revealed
it.  Why you're still rambling on about it is a myatery to me.

It might be, if you would provide useful information, and answer
simple questions.

Re: Change router port

No why has there got to be a problem?

i simply want to set the d7000v2 router to port 8082 just like i have my current draytek vigor 2860 set at that i am removing.

i have 2 named dns servers on fixed ip's and my draytek on a fixed ip but i would like to change the router port i didn't think i needed to explain why i need to change the port, if it can't be done then a simple no it can't be done would have sufficed.

Hopefully you understand now

thanks for your replies but sadley they have not answered my 1 simple question

Why is using port 80 a problem?

Which part of "I doubt that there's a practical way" (or any of
"Message 2 of 7") was unclear?

How is that relevant to anything?  What am I missing?

Re: Change router port

"Why is using port 80 a problem?"

if i set up a http server on a machine to do any testing with and forward it from the router i have no access to the router from the outside. thats why we always set our routers to 8082 this is common practice in the business world also more secure if anyone scaning ports.

"Which part of "I doubt that there's a practical way" (or any of
"Message 2 of 7") was unclear?" the words "I doubt"

"How is that relevant to anything?  What am I missing?" same as asking about firmware version if this is not possible on any version why try and be cleaver

1. Port forwardings happen on the WAN/Internet IP address, not on the (W)LAN side. As per the nice D7000v2 User Manual, p.176 ff. "Manage the Modem Router Remotely":

"7. Specify the port number for accessing the modem router’s web pages. The default is 8443, which is a common alternate for HTTPS. For greater security, enter a custom port number for accessing the modem router’s web pages remotely. Choose a number from 1024 to 65535, but do not use the number of any common service port."

So no port 80/TCP - and no plain http - involved for the remote access.

2. Using non-standard ports does not add any additonal security.

Re: Change router port

Hi yes i had seen the remote router managment in the firmware, i have 23 properties and 1 head office that i look after for this company all with the same setup to keep everything simple, i thought my op was a simple enough question that would warrant a simple answer. A simple no, with this router you can not do that, would have been a great reply.

its quite obvious to me now that with this modem/router i am not able to set it up as per my other proprites (that mainly use Draytek routers apart from 1 TP link that is configured the same as the Draytek).

Netgear do things a little differantly thats fine.

thanks for all your replies got there in the end.

See?  That wasn't so hard, after all.  Access from the WAN side of
these routers is handled differently from access from the LAN side.

It's not obvious to me.  What, exactly, can you not configure as you
want it in the Remote Management options?

> [...] i thought my op was a simple enough question that would warrant

You were wrong.  There's a difference between the LAN and WAN sides,
and, until very recently,  you seemed adamant about not describing the
actual problem which you were trying to solve.  (And now you seem
reluctant to explain what's "quite obvious to [you]".)

> [...] why try and be cleaver

I wasn't trying to be either "cleaver" or clever.  Why try to hide
useful information when asking for help?
