D6200 Won't Accept ISP Username and Password

Hi,
I've been trying to set up my D6200 router, however, I'm stuck on the final step. The genie is asking me to enter my ISP username and password on the "PPPoE DSL Internet Connection Detected" screen. I have contacted my ISP twice and they have given me the username and password twice. Yet what they have given me doesn't seem to work as it says I have entered an incorrect username and password. I have checked everything over but still can't identify the problem. Can anyone help me please?

Which ISP is this?

Try kicking the genie aside and go for a manual setup.

There is support for the D6220, including a manual, somewhere at the end of this link:

>>>> D6220 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<<

See the section Manage the Internet Settings Manually.

The ISP is EE. Also how would I go about kicking the genie aside? I'm a bit of a novice at this kind of thing.

"it" being the D6200 set-up procedure?

Are there any special characters in those PPP credentials?  Netgear
modem+router devices have a history of mishandling characters like (for
example):

There should be a choice somewhere along the line about configuring
the Internet connection manually, instead of letting the router do it
(semi-)automatically.  But, if your ISP really is providing a PPPoE
connection, then it's not immediately obvious to me that a manual set-up
would help.

>>> D6200 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<< d6200

See the section Setup Wizard and go for No, I want to configure the router myself.

Does the dreaded EE use passwords? These days some ISPs in the UK, such as BT, tie your connection to the line so you just use a "username" to get in.
