D6300 as an access point

Hello,

A newbie question here.

I have had a Netgear D6300 for several years, and really liked it.  I bought it because I have a large house and the routers provided by my ISP could not cover the house properly.  My internet line runs in at one end of the house, at the other end the wireless was non existent, even with the D6300 it was not great, but at least it worked.

I have, however had to switch to NBN (FTTN) and the D6300 was not compatible so it was mothballed temporarily.

I have found out very quickly though that them modem/router provided by my new ISP (Aussie Broadband) just does not cut it and cannot cover my house as well as the D6300 did.  My kids are losing their **bleep**.

I have managed to activate the D6300 as an access Point, and have it wired to the router in teh same room, this is satisfactory, however it would be better if I could run a longer ethernet cable through the roof space and connect the D6300 closer to the other end of the house, giving me much better coverage between both wireless routers.

If I did this at present I would have two wireless networks, and the devices would (I guess) switch between them as I move around the house.

My Question:

Is it possible to set up the D6300 so that it is connected to the router I have for the NBN, and it runs like an extension of the NBN wireless network, so the devices can just pick up the strongest signal with the same SSID and password as I move through the house?

If so is it easy enough to set up myself or would I need to get a tech head in to do it for me?

Currently I have the D6300 running as an 'access point' but the SSID and password are the same as it used to be.  I effectively have two networks, which is annoying.

If it is possible I will work to figure it out, just do not want to waste my time chasing rainbows

   How, exactly?  (Firmware version?)

I'll assume that this means that these parameters are different on
your new "them modem/router provided by my new ISP (Aussie Broadband)".
Why not configure both devices with the same SSID(x) and passphrase(s)?

With my weak psychic powers, my knowledge of your abilities is rather
limited.  It might be.  Only one way to find out.  One typical problem
would be that if you really have configured the D6300 as a wireless
access point, then you might not know its LAN IP address, which you'd
need to access its management web site.  If you selected "Get
dynamically from existing router" when you configured the D6300-as-WAP,
the  you'd need to consult your "them modem/router provided by my new
ISP (Aussie Broadband)" to determine that -- probably in some kind of
"Attached Devices" or "DHCP Clients" report.

Or, you could change the wireless credentials on your new "them
modem/router provided by my new ISP (Aussie Broadband)" to match those
on the D6300.

If all you want to do is look, then chasing rainbows is not a
problem.  Trying to reach the _ends_ of rainbows is a problem.
(Especially at high altitudes, where the whole circle can be seen, and
thus there are no ends.)
