D7000 Firmware 1.0.1.48_1.0.1 Safely Remove USB Device Nothing Happens

I upgraded the firmware on my router (1.0.1.48_1.0.1) and now when I click the button to Safely Remove USB Device nothing happens.

I also noticed that there is a new firmware update listed on the Netgear website but when I use the Firmware update in the Netgear Genie it tells me my firmware is up to date and no new version is available.

Is there anything I can do to fix these issues?

I don't believe Netgear genie says anything when you click safely remove us in the newer versions.

Thanks for the reply SystemCrash.

In the previous firmware I was using, with no issues (1.0.1.44_1.0.1), when I click the "Safely Remove USB Device" a pop-up window would appear and tell me it can now be removed (I can't remember the actual wording). The attached hard drive would no longer be listed under "Available Network Folders" and the USB light on the router would also turn off.

However since the firmware update when I click the "Safely Remove USB Device" nothing happens. The attached hard drive is still listed under "Available Network Folders" and the USB light on the router remains on.

I tried restoring a backup but the problem persists.

I have now updated firmware to 1.0.1.50 and now when I click the "Safely Remove USB Device" I receive a "403 Forbidden" message and nothing else.screenshot-2017-08-05-12-17-31.png

Have you tried to do this in another web browser?

   A few days later, my D7000 Web interface started suggesting the
V1.0.1.50_1.0.1 update.  I installed it.

   Have _you_ tried it at all?  Which are the approved browsers?  (Those
would be the ones which Netgear used in their testing.)

   For amusement, I attached a (16GB) USB flash EEPROM gizmo to mine,
and I get the same 403 error using Firefox 54.0.1 (64-bit) on a Mac
(10.11.6).  I'm guessing that the USB gizmo is this one:

# mount | grep fat
/dev/sda1 on /mnt/shares/U type vfat (rw,relatime,fmask=0000,dmask=0000,
 allow_utime=0022,codepage=cp437,iocharset=utf8,shortname=mixed,
 errors=remount-ro)

   That's after the attempt to "Safely Remove USB Device", so apparently
it's not doing the job, as well as yielding the unsightly redish "403
Forbidden" screen.

   I know nothing, but I was under the impression that tools exist to
check Web sites for problems like broken links, or 403 errors, or what
have you.  A casual observer might wonder why such tools are not applied
to the interface Web sites in every Netgear router before every firmware
release.  I hit another, similar problem in the DGN2200v4 which I was
using before the D7000:

      Netgear Case number: 28699221
      https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1312714

Now there's this one on the D7000, and there is no shortage of
similar-sounding reports in these forums.  It's starting to look like a
trend, and it does not speak well of Netgear engineering.  I see no
excuse for using customers to do basic testing which should be done
before a release rather than after.  Perhaps I fail to understand the
problem.  If so, then please enlighten me.

I experience this error when logged into the router from my pc via ethernet on both Firefox (54.0.1) and Microsoft Edge (40.15063.0.0).

I also logged into the router with my tablet, using chrome browser, and still received 403 Forbidden when I clicked "Safely Remove USB Device".

Re: D7000 Firmware 1.0.1.48_1.0.1 Safely Remove USB Device Nothing Happens

Does anybody from Netgear Support monitor these messages?

If so could you please provide some assistance in this matter.

Will there be a firmware update to fix this issue? Are you even aware that there is a problem?

Is there any interim solution - perhaps using telnet to unmount the usb device? (If so can you please provide instructions on how to do this).

I could revert back to the firmware 1.0.1.44 where I experienced no issues. However the only reason I updated the firmware was due to an email from Netgear Security requesting I update my firmware because of security vulnerabilities. So if I do use this earlier firmware what are the security issues that I should be aware of?

My router is still under warranty and I am considering returning it. I wish I had researched Netgear Products (in particular researched these message boards) before I made that purchase. If I had I very much doubt I would have purchased a Netgear product. 90 days support is woefully inadequate and should be provided for the term of the warranty.
