D7000 random internet disconnects (PPPoE)

I am currently experiencing random disconnects on my D7000 PPPoE session. I configured my ISP fiber modem as bridge and this has been the behavior so far. It disconnects for periods of 1-5 mins then connects again. I know it's not my ISP modem since it shows the WAN connection online and its time counter is not reset.

I am running the latest D7000 Firmware Version 1.0.1.64

I've gone through the MTU configuration here:

https://kb.netgear.com/19863/Ping-Test-to-determine-Optimal-MTU-Size-on-Router
and found 1492 to be optimal already.

I'm not sure what the next steps would be.

Re: D7000 random internet disconnects (PPPoE)

Is any Netgear engineer ever going to help me? Look at this log,  9!! disconnects in a period of 8 hours.

I feel encouraged to never buy this brand again 😞

Re: D7000 random internet disconnects (PPPoE)

FWIW samco I had a strange lockup problem with my D7000, and on a hunch reverted to firmware .60 instead of .64, and it appears to work now.

Version 64 of the firmware says only that it added some Google Home and Chrome stuff, so I thought "maybe these complicated things introduced some bugs".

The installation of the FW did not affect my settings. The only thing is that when you call-up the Admin page now, it says "new firmware available" of course. Good Luck.

You are running a DSL modem behind a fibre modem?

This is not a typical arrangement. (Most people put a router rather than a modem behind the cable modem.) Are you sure this is properly configured?

There is a manual for the D7000 somewhere at the end of this link:

>>> D7000 | Product | Support | NETGEAR <<<

See page 29 "Set Up the Modem Router for Cable or Fiber Service"

Re: D7000 random internet disconnects (PPPoE)

@michaelkenwardI used to have DSL service but my ISP upgraded to fiber to the home so I just configured their modem as a bridge and the D7000 was configured as a router, obviously, the D7000 does not function as a modem anymore, as this function belongs to the fiber modem now.  Technically, I can still use my D7000 for its router+wlan functions so that I do not lose my investment, this thing was expensive when I bought it.

As a matter of fact, it works okay when it works; it just disconnects/reconnects the PPPoE session very frequently and the WAN connection (on ISP modem) is not even reset, so it is always up while the D7000 flaps up and down randomly.
