D7000v2 DSL light is on but no internet connection

Have just purchased this modem/router, having used other net gear modems previously but this one will not connect to the internet. All lights are on except the internet connection light is red. My other modem works just fine using the same connection so not sure what’s going on. Have noticed the dsl cable supplied does not have the same connection at the jack point end. My jack point is rectangular not square like the dsl cable supplied. Is this an issue?

   Firmware version?

Why?  New service from some new/different ISP, or what?  What kind of
service?  Is DSL actually involved?

Not a very detailed description of anything.  Has it a maker and
model number?

"the jack point end" of what?

   "rectangular" like an Ethernet cable?

> [...] Is this an issue?

Based on not much useful information, I'd guess so.

Re: D7000v2 DSL light is on but no internet connection

First of all, how rude! I don’t know what firmware version as I just opened it out of the box and IT DOESNT WORK! What difference does it make what model my other modem is? It’s a Netgear modem that has always worked fine. It’s just getting old so I decided to upgrade. The jack point I referred to is the one on the wall of my house. It’s a rectangular shape. The cable that was supplied with the modem has 2 square ends. No rectangular end. I did find an adapter to fit my jack point however I still do not have an internet connection. I have ADSL Broadband, no vdsl or fibre. Have I purchased a model that will not work with my connection? Please don’t answer with rude comments.

What I find "rude" is expecting volunteers to provide free help to
someone who declines to provide any useful information when it's
requested.

If you know so much about which information is relevant and which is
not, then you must not need my help to deal with a problem like "IT
DOESN[']T WORK!"  You have my best wishes in your endeavors, and I'll
try not to bother you again with any pesky ("rude") attempts to extract
a useful problem description from you.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).  Read.

The D7000v2 does both VDSL and ADSL.

Which ISP do you have? That might offer a few clues.

It helps people to understand what is going in at your end and to offer possible solutions. Do you have any reason for not saying what it is?

Is that the hole in the wall where you plug in the phone?

Maybe the phone cable in the Netgear box is for the US style phone socket. Here in the UK we have rectangular plugs. We also have DSL filters that we plug into the phone socket. The filter has two sockets, one for the phone, often rectangular, and the other for the connection to the mode. That's the square one.

Here's the filter.

Does it look familiar?

Of course, had you told us what the older modem was, we could have looked at the manual to see if it has something different.

If you visit the support pages:

Support | NETGEAR

you can feed in the model number and find all the documentation for your hardware.

You can find the model number on the label on the device. Then look at the connections on the modem/router.

I hope I live up to your expectations.
