Why? New service from some new/different ISP, or what? What kind of
service? Is DSL actually involved?

model number?

"the jack point end" of what?

model number?

"rectangular" like an Ethernet cable?
> [...] Is this an issue?
Based on not much useful information, I'd guess so.

What I find "rude" is expecting volunteers to provide free help to
someone who declines to provide any useful information when it's
requested.

If you know so much about which information is relevant and which is
not, then you must not need my help to deal with a problem like "IT
DOESN[']T WORK!" You have my best wishes in your endeavors, and I'll
try not to bother you again with any pesky ("rude") attempts to extract
a useful problem description from you.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual (at least). Read.

Re: D7000v2 DSL light is on but no internet connection
The D7000v2 does both VDSL and ADSL.
Which ISP do you have? That might offer a few clues.

What difference does it make what model my other modem is?
It helps people to understand what is going in at your end and to offer possible solutions. Do you have any reason for not saying what it is?

The jack point I referred to is the one on the wall of my house. It’s a rectangular shape.
Is that the hole in the wall where you plug in the phone?
Maybe the phone cable in the Netgear box is for the US style phone socket. Here in the UK we have rectangular plugs. We also have DSL filters that we plug into the phone socket. The filter has two sockets, one for the phone, often rectangular, and the other for the connection to the mode. That's the square one.
Here's the filter.
Does it look familiar?
Of course, had you told us what the older modem was, we could have looked at the manual to see if it has something different.
If you visit the support pages:
Support | NETGEAR
you can feed in the model number and find all the documentation for your hardware.
You can find the model number on the label on the device. Then look at the connections on the modem/router.

I hope I live up to your expectations.
