D7000v2 LED indicators not indicating

I purchased a D7000v2 a while back and have been pretty disappointed with it, for a number  reasons. The latest is this:

On two recent occasions, my ISP service has failed. I expected that either or both of the Internet and DSL LEDs would indicate the abnormality, with either the Internet LED showing amber or off, or the DSL LED showing off.

However, both the LEDs remained solid white, giving me no indication that there was an external ISP service issue. I was also unable to connect to the router via HTTP or Genie so could not access any log content or dashboard status.

Why does the D7000v2 LEDs not correctly display, as defined in the User Manual?

   Firmware version?

That expectation might be unrealistic.  If the device has some
firmware or hardware defect which causes it to stop working properly,
then why would you expect its LED indicators to work properly when it's
not doing anything else properly?

A Web or forum search for your model number should find multiple
complaints about it.  A broader search might find multiple complaints
about the D7000[v1], too, including mine.

My impression is that the firmware supplied for these models has many
bugs, and that Netgear is unlikely ever to fix the problems.  There have
also been complaints about a hardware problem (heatsink) in the D7000v2.
