D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
Well, I raised this issue within the 90 days as Case No: 40187299. Unfortunately it auto closed and now I can't continue the exchange directly with Netgear support as 90 days now expired. Originlly I thought I must have made a simple mistake setting this up, but emiling logs worked on my previous router WNR2200 and it works on this DSL modem/rouer if I manually send the log from the Log page, but does not send anything by sechedule.
I tried another email server without success
I tried using my own local server and saw that there was no SMTP connection attempt made.
Firmware is V1.0.0.51_1.0.1
The main things I can think of that maybe of interest in my configuration:
- Port fowarding of ports 25/TCP and 123/UDP
- LAN IP is x.x.1.252 rather than x.x.1.1
Any ideas or suggestions would be welcome.

Your first thought about the setup is spot on. Getting schedules to work depends on getting the email to work. Many people fail at that stage because some email servers are very picky. And a server that works with one router fails with another.
But you have passed the first hurdle by getting it to send manual logs.
I assume that you have done the obvious and checked spam folders. How about the "events" you want to log?
Tried sending to a different email address? As long as the SMTP server works, the "Primary E-mail Address" can be anything in my experience.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
Thanks. There is nothing in spam. I also tried sending to gmail account, but nothing received there either. Not sure I understood your 'events' query - surely events go to log file regardless of sending by schedule or not? Anyway, I tried everything ticked and also the same selection as I had on WNR2200. The other thing that seems to confirm nothing is happening i that the log doesn't clear which it would ig log email was sent by schedule- that was what happened with WNR2200 and I'm sure I read that it should be the same for this device.
P.S. I finally managed to contact Netear Support by ringing the sales line and getting the support telephone number that way - they have raised a new case for me to carry on the exchange on this topic. Hopefully I'll get a bit further with it this time.
Thanks again..

The replacement Case #40342653 was raised and the requested date requested on th earlier question provided. but no answer from Netgear yet.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
No response yet to the replacement case no., so rang up and they reckon it isn't a firmware issue and issued me with RMA.
I have to say I'm a bit dubious about this and wonder if it is worth spending the money to have a replacement sent out... if it doesn't solve the problem. it will be money down the drain.
I'm currently pondering whether to do a factory resent and see if I can see if the schedule works with the absolute minimal change from that configuration.
I've just tried changing from DSL to plain route and setting LAN IP back to default but this hasn't made any difference.

If you haven't tried that already, it is an obvious first move.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
Thanks,
Well, I did try it and no difference. I set it up manually and one strange thing happened: it went to Chinese or similar and I'm not sure why - but anyway, easily recovered from that...
I set up email again on the Security - E-Mail page again but still doesn't send on the hourly schedule.
- checked Turn E-mail Notification On
- entered email address and server (no authentication required)
- left Send Alert Immediately checked
- selected hourly schedule
Time to give up, I am thinking

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
Unfortunately, Netgear's email logging does not have a "test this" button. The only way I have found to see if your settings will work is to use the "send now" option and then to check the logs to see if it worked. These will shows a "failed/succeeded" entry.
Log sending is a rat's nest that Netgear should fix. Older routers don't even allow you to choose an SMTP port.
It also depends on ISPs allowing access to smtp servers and the ports they open.
Some of us find it easier to use a third party SMTP server, such as GMail. Then just send to the email address of your choice.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
Thanks for that. I have never really had any problem with the manual send log, just with the schedule.
However, last night I did a reset, this time using the hw reset button. Unfortunately (or furtunately) someone wanted internet access quickly, so I just set it up directly from the last cfg file I had saved yesterday. I have just noticed this morning that it has been sending hourly logs overnight....
Now I'm more confused tha ever, but at least it seems to be working for now.

Anyone would think that IT stuff follows the rules of logic.
Glad it worked out.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
@ michaelkenward
Thanks - and, ues, you are ceryainly right about that...
I now have another discovery: At some point when I went back to default settings, I removed a USB memory stick from the unit. At the time, it didn't make any difference, so I had mentally discarded this from my investigations.
While emails were being sent fine for 24 hours, when I re-insrted the USB stick, emails stopped being sent by schedule.
Removing the stick doesn't restart the emails, unless the router is rebooted.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule
The memory stick is SanDisk SDCZ43 128GB. And I lose the scheduled emails whether I insert in the left or right USB port. I tried rebooting with memory stick in place, but that doesn't help - only removing it and restarting brings back the schedule. Stick is formatted FAT32 as this was the only format that worked with my WNR2200.
Also, I find that the router sometimes needs to be rebooted a couple of times as it can get stuck with all indicator lights normal but not responding on any port - wireless is on but doesn't allow a connection. When it does hang, it isn't always immediate after reboot but can be a while later.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule when USB stick present
Completed the RMA exchange, but the new unit shows exactly the same behaviour.
I am now left wondering how to persuade Netgear poduct specialists to take an interest... The support ticket that was opened for me has had no response from Netgear, even though I have been regularly adding observations from the various trials I have carried out.

If you read much through these forums this is fairly typical. Netgear support likes to say you have a hardware problem for what is clearly formware/software. Oh, don't hold your breath waiting for Netgear to actually fix their firmware.

Re: D7000v2 fails to send log file by schedule when USB stick present
Indeed, you may well be right. However I did succed with my WNR2200 that would not forward port 123/udp with the error that the port was already in use. They eventually replicated the problem and sent me a modified firmware that solved the problem - although the fix doesn't seem to have been incorporated in the latest firmware for that unit..
I shall let you know if I make any progress.
