D7000v2 (firmware V1.0.0.47_1.0.1) port forwarding

So, having just upgraded to the newest d7000v2 firmware being V1.0.0.47_1.0.1... in the hope of finally getting some basically functionality working out of my not so cheap router.

Boy was i wrong....port forwarding still doesn't work. There are many other things i could complain about however without port forwarding I can't remotely access a few things on my network.

Is anyone else having the same issues?

Granted everyone doesn't require port forwarding but so what... it's meant to be a basic fundamental for a router is it not?

Netgear is it really that hard to get port forwarding!?

"doesn't work" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say
what you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions with their actual results (error messages, LED
indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague descriptions or
interpretations.

> Is anyone else having the same issues?

"the same" as _what_?  "doesn't work"?

> Granted everyone doesn't require port forwarding [...]

Actually, "Not everyone requires port forwarding."  It seems to work
well enough on my D7000v1 (V1.0.1.54_1.0.1).  (I have only about 15
port-forwarding rules on mine.)  If there were some fundamental problem
with port forwarding on a D7000v2, then I'd expect to have seen more
complaints about it in these forums.

If you're making some error when trying to configure port forwarding,
then I would not expect a firmware update to help much.  Sadly, without
a description of what you're trying to do, the actual steps which you've
taken, and your evidence for "doesn't work", I doubt that we'll get very
far in blame assignment (which is always Job One).

> Netgear is it really that hard to get port forwarding!?

In my experience, port forwarding is one of the things which Netgear
seems to get right, mostly.  It's also one of the things which very many
users get wrong.  Based on no actual information, I know where I'd place
my bet.

No error messages on the log, no LED indicators (for port forwarding i'm aware of - please educate me) basically when its re-directed to a port where software / hardware listening to it. When using No-IP the router responds instead of the sw/hw. i.e port forwarding doesn't work. nor can anything be seen in the logs. Port check tools show the opened ports are not open.

Uhm, port forwarding not working.

I had approx 10 forwards on the v1 without any issues. You may need to try the v2. On new years day my hardware vendor "upgraded" me to the v2 as I was sick of the constant wifi drop outs.

FYI, I have several paid clients where I've installed the d7000v1 and at least 10 would have port forwarding for CCTV systems etc, so I pretty much doubt that.

Yea "mostly", please go ahead and try a V2, I'll be happy to eat my words.

Do not assume all users are joe average.

Did you reset the router to factory settings after the firmware flash?

New firmware sometimes introduces changes that are not compatible with the old configuration.

So while it isn't guaranteed to fix problems a factory reset is the first thing to try if you have issues with new firmware.

You can reduce the hassle of reconfiguring all those settings by creating a backup of your settings before you reset. Then if something is still broken after the reset, and the new firmware has not fixed it, you can restore the device to its pre-reset state.

You could even try restoring the settings even if the new firmware has fixed the problems, but be prepared for the restore to also bring back your problems.

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your response.

No, i haven't tried resetting to factory default since the firmware upgrade, I'll give this a go tomorrow.

Can I ask if this is meant to be standard upgrade procedure as i don't see it documented anywhere from memory.

What i had done, was delete the exsisting port forwards and set them up again and tested but that didn't work.

However, i must add that port forwarding functionality did not work out of the box with the firmware the router shipped with (sorry can't recall the version number).

Cheers.

No, but it is the first thing to try and is a part of the official support tean's "try this" repertoire although in reality it is a bit like the old PC support "turn it on and off at the mains" trick, which usually means "I don't have a clue".

The "reset" move has fixed problems for many people, while achieving nothing for others.

Hi Michael,

Have completed as suggested above however that has not made any difference unfortunately.

Interestingly, no matter what I put in the port forward setup, the router always responds with it's log-in dialogue box using No-IP.

No fear.  Joe Average is more likely to provide useful answers to
questions, rather than to assert his vast expertise as a substitute for
actual information.

What, exactly, are you doing?  Using a web browser?  Pointed at what?
From where?  Where does No-IP enter into the picture?  What does "the
router responds instead of the sw/hw" mean?  What sort of router
response?  Which "the sw/hw"?  Does any of this "the sw/hw" work from
within the LAN?  (Whatever "work" means here.)

   Still true.

> Uhm, port forwarding not working.

Do you see how little that adds to the discussion?

Aside from some explanation of what you're trying to do, other useful
material would include copy+paste of your actual port-forwarding rules,
copy+paste of your actual address reservations (if any, and, if none,
then why none), and some description of the server system and software
which would be the target of all this port forwarding.  And then an
actual description of what you did when "it" failed, and some actual
symptoms of this failure.

> Anyone?

Anything?  Between your "doesn't work" and my weak psychic powers,
there's not much I can offer in the category of specific advice.  A Web
search for, say, "how to ask a technical question" might help, too.

Re: D7000v2 (firmware V1.0.0.47_1.0.1) port forwarding

I'm wondering if this problem may be related to mine.  Unfortunately nobody has come up to a solution for mine yet, or a reply.

I had the D7000v1 and before it went wrong everything worked just fine, it was replaced with the v2 and now I'm snookered, see my post here.  I've tried setting port forwarding rules to no avail but then I'm not 100% sure I've done it correctly. I never had to on the V1

Re: D7000v2 (firmware V1.0.0.47_1.0.1) port forwarding

Hi,

I've got this issue too. firmware version:V1.0.0.47_1.0.1

I'm trying to forward the Port 21 to my FTP server, haven't had any joy.

Routers IP Address (internal) is set to 192.168.1.1

FTP server is on 192.168.1.120. Works fine testing the ftp server internally. Works fine if I use an old BT hub with Port 21 Port forwading open.

I've tried FTP server in Passive and active mode.

I'm sure I've missed something obvious.
