DGN2000 as access point... don't work

Hello everyone

I have a DGN2000 that I want to use as Access Point, to reach my bedrooms. (take signal from a tplink dsl router)

- I connected with eth cable the main router to the DGN2000

- I disabled DHCP on DGN2000

- I gave it a different IP but in the same range of the main router (192.168.0.10 , main router has 0.1)

- I set a wireless, with ssid "criscasacamere", different from wifi of main router ("criscasa")

but

- I can't get internet from access point ---- 😞

- I don't know if DGN2000 is really connected (I don't know how to see the list of the devide connected to main router, to check)

- DGN2000 still show "connecting" on dsl status.. of course because is not connected to dsl.... but is it possible to disable it???

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

Which port on the DGN2000 did you use to connect to the main router?  Hint: Not the Internet port!

[Edit: The DGN2000 doesn't have an Internet port, so disregard this question]

Make sure the IP address you assigned to the DGN2000 (i.e. 192.168.0.10) is not an address that the main router can assign to another device.  Otherwise, you run the risk of an address conflict.  Give the DGN2000 an address that is in the same subnet as the main router, but outside of the range of addresses managed by the DHCP server on the main router.

For example, if the subnet on the main router is 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 and main router can assign addresses from 192.168.0.2 through 192.168.0.100, inclusive, then assign 192.168.0.150 to the DGN2000.

Try unchecking the Connect Automatically, as required checkbox in WAN Setup on the DGN2000 to get rid of the "connecting" status.

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

DGN ha also the internet port, as it's a modem.

Anyway of course I connected to LAN port 🙂

Assigned IP is out of the dhcp range. I have 192.168.0.100 -> 192.168.0.200 assigned to wifi, and DGN2000 is 192.168.0.10.

In home I have only 2 device connecting on cable, and they take 02 and 03.

So any other devices (iphone, ipad ecc) take from 100 up

I unflag the "connect automatically" but modem still continue to say "connecting" (I don't know if this can be a problem.. ?)

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

What I meant is that the DGN2000 does not have an Ethernet-type Internet port.  Many of Netgear's other modem/routers have one.  I assumed the DGB2000 had one, which is why I wanted to be sure that you were not using that port.

It should not be a problem for the modem to continue saying "connecting".

Are you able to ping 192.168.0.10?

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

i tried to modify the ip.

As I have on main router the dhcp between 192.168.0.100 and .199, I choose the IP for second router 192.168.0.200

yes I can ping it regulally.

I created a wifi , with another name of that I use on main router.

I can connect to it from my iphone, but i cannot load any web page. As if I have no internet connection  (but connecting to main router via wifi it's online)

:(((((((((

maybe name of wifi must be the same???

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

The Wi-Fi name does not need to be the same; it can be different.

Did you configure the DGN2000 with the same subnet mask as the main router?

When your iPhone is connected to the DGN2000 Wi-Fi, is it picking up an IP address, default gateway and DNS server?  It should be obtaining that from the main router.

But if you can't ping the main router from the DGN2000, then you need to fix that first.

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

When setting up the DGN2000 to be an AP did you shut off NAT and specify the IP of your main router as the Gateway?

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

maybe this can be the problem..... where do i set the netgear ... AP ?  (I only deactivated the dhcp)

and where shut off NAT?

Main router IP is correctly the gateway yet.

Re: DGN2000 as access point... don't work

Can't say for sure on the DGN2000, on my DGND3700 - Genie - Basic - Internet - it's at the bottom of the screen. You should also be able to disable the Firewall there too.

According to the manual, NAT can be disabled under Basic Settings.
