DM200 CatchupTV (Large LAN)

Hello

Hoping for some help - I have a fairly large LAN.

3x 24port gigabit ZyXel switches and a Netgear gigabit 8 port switch GS108Ev3

These are controlled from a Netgear RBK50 and RB50 saterlitte.

The RBK50 is linked to a DM200 modem in bridge mode.

The downstairs Samsung Smart TV goes via the GS108Ev3 > Zyxel Switch A > Netgear Orbi Router > DM200

The upstairs Samsung Smart TV goes via a > ZyXel Switch A > Netgear Orbi Router > DM200

When watching any form of Catchup on Cat6A Ethernet cable - I have issues with buffering.

When I try either TV's wirelessly - I have issues with buffering.

I have power cycled the whole network in order.

In Wireless Mode:

One thing I have noticed is that if I connect with a static IP on the tv, I connect to my LAN but the Samsung cannot see an internet connection.  If I connect on the phone via a static IP - I connect to my LAN but the iPhone doesnt see internet (i.e the symbol stays at 4G) but I can still reach websites at my 32mbps speed...

With DHCP enabled, they both connect and both see internet (4G goes to a wireless symbol) and Samsung TV's see internet.

So my questions are

(1) Anyone know why it can't see internet with a static IP assigned on the device (as opposed to LAN rule) in wireless connection?

(2) Why the heck is wireless or wired catchup in any App stop/starting/failing or buffering?

(3) I'm almost assuming its the DM200, what alternatives are there, including non-netgear modems for VDSL/ADSL+.

(4) Are there any settings on the DM200 which would improve this?

Thanks

Chris

Do you mean really static, or reserved dynamic?

Beyond the client's IP address, a typical DHCP server supplies a
default-route gateway, and one or more DNS servers.  When you specify "a
static IP on the tv", are you also specifying the same default-route
gateway and DNS server(s) as the DHCP server supplies?

What are all these IP addresses?  Is everything in the same subnet?

Re: DM200 CatchupTV (Large LAN)

I mean real static, I do have reserved dynamic rules but I deleted them to allow the static ip to be set on the device.

I reckon reserved dynamic would work.

Thank you, you helped me resolve issue 1.  The DNS on the tv had a 160 not a 168 (tired eyes).

The Iphone is a little different, if you do a static ip, gateway and subnet.  Theres a toggle lower down on DNS - if it is set to auto (it doesnt work almost as if my Orbi isn't broadcasting it).  If set to manual DNS with the ip address of the router, hey the symbol changes.!

Answer to my other question after some research:

  • DM200
  • Openreach Huawei HG612 (3B) bridge modem

  • TPlink TD-W9970 offers a bridge mode

  • BT Business Hub 5 also offers 'bridge mode'. (It must be the 'Business' version)

  • Draeytek Vigor 130

I am going to try buying a BT Hub and HG612.  As its plusnet fibre FTTC - I think I need VDSL2

So my questions are

(2) Why the heck is wireless or wired catchup in any App stop/starting/failing or buffering?

(4) Are there any settings on the DM200 which would improve this?
