Does the D7000 allow me to check/alter SNR ?

Simple question not sure answer will be :@)
Does the D7000 allow me to check/alter the SNR ?

Thanks awaiting with interest in replies.

   D7000 or D7000v2?  Firmware version?

Check?  ADVANCED > ADVANCED Home : Internet Port : Show Statistics :
Noise Margin?

Alter?  It's a property of the physical connection to the
central-office equipment (DSLAM), not a software parameter under your
control.

Is there some actual problem which you are trying to solve?

Re: Does the D7000 allow me to check/alter SNR ?

As I understood it we could alter or spoof (if that is the right term) so the exch would.
I understood that it’s now no longer the exch that has sole control of this.
I have a TP-Link VR900 just now but it’s giving me issues so looking to persevere or change it for D7000.
So I believe TP-Link can via telnet access.
Does the Netgear ?

The D7000v1 with Ancistrus firmware allows for some tweaking, though I don't know that it will do exactly whatever it is that you want. But in any case the D7000 is apparently no longer supported by Netgear, is very difficult to find, and seems to me is not the best option for a new router purchase.

Ah ok great thanks for pointing this out to me seems odd to me then we can still purchase it in national (btw I’m in the U.K.) retail outlets.
So if your certain D7000 is no longer supported what is the comparable device ?
Is this v1 or any D7000 which is no longer supported ?

   Still a mystery.

Based on what?  With my weak psychic powers, I have no idea what you
might have been reading.

"so the exch would" _what_?  Negotiate a higher DSL link rate, based
on phony signal-quality data, so that you'll get more transmission
errors and retransmissions, and no real net gain in speed?  Why bother?

> I understood that it's now no longer the exch that has sole control of
> this.

"this"?  S/N or what?  In this context, the _actual_ signal-to-noise
ratio is a property of the communication channel, not the whim of some
user/device at either end of that channel.  If you think that you can
provoke this equipment to negotiate a higher (real) speed than the folks
who wrote the low-level modem algorithms, then you're welcome to try,
but I'm skeptical.

> So I believe TP-Link can via telnet access.

   "can" _what_?

> Does the Netgear ?

"Does the Netgear" _what_?  Allow Telnet access?  Mine does.  Let you
fiddle with some S/N ratio value the way you might want?  I have no
idea.

A Web or forum search for D7000 might suggest that the D7000v2 has
more and different firmware bugs, when compared with the D7000[v1].

You know what I came on here for some help not sarcasm.
Enjoy I won’t be coming back. Lovely forum.

Then perhaps you should have brought along a useful description of
the actual problem which you are trying to solve, rather than asking
many incomprehensible and unmotivated questions.  Answering requests for
basic information might have helped, too.

I think that probably I'll be able to bear up under that strain, too.

You're welcome.  A Web search for "life is like a sewer" should find
some relevant general advice.

Antinode, I registered solely to tell you that your posts here are unbearable. The loathing you feel for people with questions is palpable. You have the presence of a parking cop. You sound like the Comic Book Guy. Please do some self reflection.

Sorry, I don't know about UK markets and so my comments about availability may be off-base. And regarding obsolescence I have only read anedotes here about Tech Support giving replies that include "engineering isn't updating any more" which could in fact have been regarding only the V1. Still, the Ancistrus firmware I mentioned is NOT for the v2, only the v1 (different chipsets) so I do feel quite confident that the v2 won't give you what you want (if the feature is not in the User Manual then it is not possible).

There is a difference between "support" and "sell". Netgear often continues to support devices some time after they fall out of the end of the retail market. So there will still be firmware updates.

To see if something really is beyond support, check the support pages for "EOL" (end of life).

Sadly, Netgear seems to regard modem/routers as second class. So updates are less frequent than they are for modem/routers.

In this case, the latest firmware for the D7000 has just landed, er today:

D7000 Firmware Version 1.0.1.74 | Answer | NETGEAR Support

This may not show up if you ask the device to look for new firmware. It may take a few days for the new version to land on the FTP server. In any case, experienced users prefer to run a manual update.

Netgear isn't all that active in the modem market generally. But if you are looking for something more controllable then I'd investigate the DM200, a modem only (almost) DSL modem. (I say almost because it does have some "routering" that you need to disable to work with a router.) About £35 in the usual places.

You could slap the DM200 in front of the D7000 should you feel the urge. Or treat yourself to a router only box. You know you want to.

Thank you.
After time to cool off I thought to myself - no one god complex ain’t going to put me off.

Antenode I feel like you need some loving 🥰 perhaps that might make you less angst.

Anyhow thanks to others who I’ve seen posted here.

V2
Still supported.

I am not sure what that is meant to say, but I suspect that L2 support may be a bit confused.

The newest firmware for the D7000 V1 came out on 07/18/2019. I know that Netgear uses wonky date stamps, but that one means 18th July 2019. Today is the 26th July, a mere eight days later.

Interesting. Thank you.
I’m still toying with getting a D7000 v2.
Just posted re V1 as reading around the DSL options and saw it. 👍

Any reason for choosing that?

What do you have now?

Have you thought of a separate modem and router? You will get something more versatile and easier to manage.

The range of modem/routers is limited. And there hasn't been a new DSL modem/routers in quite some time. Firmware updates for modem/routers also seem to be less frequent.

The extra cost does not have to be that high.

The DM200 is a basic modem which, when you have disabled its basic "routering", will work nicely in front of a capable router. The combination of a DM200 and R7000, for example can cost about the same as a D7000 from some places.
