Managed_Switch_Issues

I recently substituted a GS308E (8-port) managed switch for a Tenda Gigabit unmanaged switch in the ground floor part of a home network and, as  a result, have encountered some problems in what was a previously problem-free network.

The network is not used for gaming. It is connected with category 6 cabling and, to date only ports 1-3 are being used:-

Port 1 connects to a BT Smart Hub (Six-foot cable run)

Port 2 connects to Windows 10 Desktop computer ( 2 foot cable run)

Port 3 connects to a Devolo Dlan 1000 Duo+ powerline unit ( 8 foot cable run).

The network adapter  in  Windows 10 Control panel on the Desktop is set-up for a 1Gb connection and reports this is the case. And the Devolo unit is capable of 1Gb transmission speed and was regularly achieving anything from 600-800Mb when connected to the earlier Tenda unmanaged switch.

First problem is that whilst ports  1 and 2  show both of the two lights per port illuminated when a network cable is connected, indicating a 1 Gb connection, port 3 has only the 100Mb light illuminated - The 10Mb light is always unilluminated.

I believe the problem is related to the connection to the Devolo unit as if   the latters connecting network cable is moved to Port 1 or 2, of the Network switch then the fault condition  (Unilluminated 10Mb port light) appears on these ports.

Is this a compatibility issue between the Netgear managed switch and the Devolo unit ?

You have posted your message in the section of this community given over to Cable Modems, Routers and DSL Modems. (This is easily done, given Netgear's impenetrable community structure.)

You might get better and quicker replies, and find other answers, over in the appropriate section for your device. That's probably here:
