After I installed myN600 wireless router i found that as far as the internet was concerned I had moved serveral hundred miles. Previoulsly when I used "Whereisip.com" my IP was in southwest Washington State. Now it showes some place in Kansas. Does it matter? Is this like a VPN?

Hello Whistlingjack
This sounds more like the proxy settings had been changed making your ip look like its a different location. I would check to see if proxy settings have been changed if not reboot your modem and routers check again if still seeing a IP not close to you i would contact your isp and troubleshoot with them.
