N300 wireless ADSL Modem router DGN2200v3

Good morning,

Our domestic router is about four years old. We run Android items from it - a PC, laptop, tablet and two Samsung phones. We don't do much on the internet, in common with most seniors, but we do depend on it.

All was well until a month or two back when things started to go wrong. Could it be a problem with the router? Does it need replacing or can it be fixed?.I am completely lost with such things and have no idea what to do, so any advice would be warmly appreciated - assuming it is in layman's language!

The connection with the internet has become intermittent. We have turned it off and on a number of times with no result. One Android phone picks up email, but the other doesn't (it shows numbers of emails as having come in, but they are not listed. We imagine that this is a fault with the phone.)

The display lights show, from left to right:-

Power - green

1 - was orange ten minutes ago, now green

2, 3, 4 - all unlit

The remaining four (symbols, not numbers) - green

Can anyone help, please?

(And if your view is that it should be junked, any thoughts on what to replace it with - and what to avoid - would be very helpful.)

With thanks, and best wishes for 2021.

The DGN2200v3 you listed dates back to 2013 and was originally (v1) released in 2011.

It is an ADSL modem/router, a technology that has all but disappeared in favour of VDSL. I am surprised that there are ISPs around still using ADSL.

The wifi on the DGN2200v3 is also old, and does not support faster 5 GHz devices. That may not be important, but any recent Samsung device will support 5 GHz.

It is hard to advise on what might be going wrong at your end. A first move would be to check that you have the latest firmware on your device. But the latest update was in 2016.

DGN2200v3 Firmware Version 1.1.00.25 | Answer | NETGEAR Support

You could also see if it helps to reset the DGN2200v3 and reconfigure it from scratch.

You could also see if your Internet service provider offers newer technology for its users. Like I said, ADSL is on the way out.
