Re: Netgear D6400

I'll see if I can find that information on my D6400. If I can work out how to find it!

I don't have it by me in the office at the moment. It is the one I use in the house

Re: Netgear D6400

I have just purchased one of these and can see no mention in the settings for this but then again as it a low level function on the chipset and firmware it is unlikely to be displayed!

From other forums it looks like the D6400 used the BCM63168 chipset so in theory should support G.998.4 (g.inp) and vectoring. However, it may not have been enabled in the current firmware. The question has been submitted to Netgear support but no response as of yet.

Re: Netgear D6400

I have just had the following from Netgear support:
Yes, the D6400 supports G.998.4 for DSL and G.INP and Vectoring for VDSL. Since the D6400 is VDSL capable, this is also a backward compatible with ADSL, ADSL2+ and DSL.

So we can all treats easy that our purchase is (a little) future proof.

Re: Netgear D6400

Thanks for stepping in. I did look at mine late last night but could see no mention of the required details.

Unfortunately, the beta forum is closed so I can't see if that ever came up in discussion.

Re: Netgear D6400

I have to say looking at the Kitz forum there still seems to be some doubt as to whether the D6400 does actually support G.IMP and Vectoring.

It may be nice for someone from Netgear to step in and provide a definitive answer top this question as otherwise this new product may sink in many markets that need this support! Ideally with some evidence that G.IMP is supported.

Re: Netgear D6400

I have forwarded this question to the Senior Product Engineering Manager behind the development of this box and his team.

Maybe he will reply.

Re: Netgear D6400

All netgear routers by default do not have telnet enabled. This feature needs to be unlocked. Existing tools do not work as in late 2014, Netgear decided to change the ports the commands needed to be sent over to unlock telnet from TCP port 23 to UDP port 23.

"The old Netgear Windows telnetEnable.exe sends probe packets to the router's TCP port 23. Thus, it is not compatible with firmware and routers Netgear introduced after early 2014, which require UDP port 23."

http://wiki.openwrt.org/toh/netgear/telnet.console

However, a developer has modified the unlock tool in order for this to work. The exe file can be found on git hub.

How to Unlock Telnet.

1) Download the unlock tool from here https://github.com/LuKePicci/NetgearTelnetEnable/blob/master/binaries/windows/telnetenable.exe
2) Once downloaded run the following command telnetenable.exe {IP ADDRESS of D6400} {MAC ADDRESS of Router LAN Port} {user id} {password}

What you type should look similar to this

telnetenable.exe 192.168.1.1 000FB5A2BE26 admin helloworld

If you have done this correctly, you should now be able to use telnet.

3) On dslstats, select any netgear router - i think i selected the last one in the list.
4) Leave user ID and Password blank on DSLstats.
5) No other settings required.

Hope this helps.

Remember, each time you reboot the router, you will have to unlock telnet again.

Will D6400 support a VDSL 30a profile?

Re: Netgear D6400

UK VDSL2 doesn't have any plan for 30a profile at present and probably never will be. Because BT are to trial G.Fast instead ready for 2016/17.

Re: Netgear D6400

Can anyone provide details of how to set up the IPTV for plusnet tv? I know the set up is similar to BT Vision.

Cheers.

Rick.

Re: Netgear D6400

ricke17, If it's similar to BT, maybe you can try to run Setup Wizard again and select BT, and it will configure BT IPTV automatically.

Re: Netgear D6400

Can you check page 198 of the user manual and see if that helps for IPTV. That is the only information I can see.

Re: Netgear D6400

zeuss, Without sounding stupid - can I skip parts of the set up wizard? I am with plusnet - so it is configured ok for the internet - can I re-run the set up wizard skipping the internet part and setting up the IPTV part? Rick.

Re: Netgear D6400

I think you cannot skip the Internet Setup and configure IPTV directly. To re-run the Setup Wizard should be no side effect while you re-configure the Internet settings again, but you can enable IPTV for BT and try if it can solve your problem with plusnet IPTV

Re: Netgear D6400

Warning to all users who land on this thread.

The latest firmware for this modem causes problems on BT and TalkTalk in the UK.

Two of us see the same thing. It drops the connection from time to time.

D6400 keeps dropping internet connection - NETGEAR Communities

D6400 Firmware Confusion - NETGEAR Communities

Here's what I said over there:

The symptoms I see are that the PC starts throwing Internet connection errors while the modem still shows that it is connected. Eventually the Internet light changes colour.

If I go to the Connection Status, the windows is frozen. The Connection time, in particular, is stuck. If I then try to Disconnect/Connect, nothing happens. Earlier modems would show that the thing was trying to reestablish a connection. In the case of the D6400 and the new firmware, the only way to restore the Internet services is to reboot the modem.

The old firmware had none of these problems. I would use it only if it adds features that I needed.
