Netgear D7000

the device D7000 is compatible with ADSL2, before buying it I like to understand why smetime the pecture show it with red port for internet and grey for DSL, sometime there isn't red port ethernet, however the idescription of D7000 see only 4 ethernet port.

I would be sure to choose the rigth netgear device

Re: Netgear D7000

The D7000 can be used for either dsl service or cable service. The gray port is for dsl and the red port is for if you're running in router only mode with input coming from a modem.

There are two hardware versions of the D7000. The D7000[v1] has a
"red Internet port". The (newer/cheaper) D7000v2 has a shared "LAN 4 /
Ethernet WAN" port.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in each model number, and
look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual.  Read.

Note that the D7000v2 User Manual is lousy with errors, especially in
parts relevant to this.

Re: Netgear D7000

In fact my device doesn’t have a red port and the grey port seem be rj45 so the telephone cable cannot work, probably. i like to be sure, different model have a red port like D6400 while in amaon.it the D7000 doesn’t have a red port.

I have some doubts about this purchase

thank you

If you don't have the red port you have the D7000v2.  the product data sheet shows One (1) VDSL/ADSL port and all the research I've done shows rj11.  Are you sure its a rj45 port?  you state "seems to be rj45" but have you actually tried it with an ethernet cable or phone cable?  I don't have one so I can't definitevly state its for sure rj11 but everything I looked at says it is including the fcc documentation file

here's the FCC documentation for the D7000v2 if you'd like to look it over yourself.

   Huh?

No "red Internet port" means D7000v2.  What does the product label
say?

The gray "DSL" port is what the User Manual says that it is:

DSL port. One RJ-11 DSL port for connecting the modem router to an
ADSL or VDSL line. This port is colored gray.

   This really is not complicated.

A DSL modem like the D7000 can, indeed, be used with a cable ISP, but only as a router. You need to bypass the modem bit for cable Internet.

The DSL modem cannot work as a cable modem. You will need a separate modem for cable.

In general, experienced users like to use separate devices as modem and router.

For example, the DM200 is a DSL modem (with limited router features that you have to disable if you use it with a router).

The CM1000 is a cable modem.

Sorry should have put in there that if being used for cable would require a modem. Was more concerned with making sure gbc55 knew it had a rj11 for dsl. Thanks for adding that part in!

If you're not more careful, some busybody/pedant might remind you
that it's not a modem (or a router).  For example (a small sample):

Re: Netgear D7000

You should check with your provider to see if their xDSL service is paired, ie; two pairs of wires into the RJ11 connector. There are no Netgear devices that support paired xDSL service.
