Netgear default username and password not working

G'day. I had to reset my modem to factory settings, and the default username (admin) and password (password) do not work. I have tried many other combinations with no success.
Any suggestions?

How are you connected to the modem/router?

How did you reset the thing? (Some people thing that power cycling is a reset.)
