New Modem/Router for 20 mbs to 100 mbs
Do I need to upgrade my modem or router to faster devices if I upgrade my internet service from 20 mbps to 100 mbps?

I don't know, but, considering that you seem already to have your
current equipment, I might run the experiment with that stuff, and trust
reality over any free advice which I might get here.

Unless that 100Mb/s service involves a bonded pair of DSL channels,
which, I believe, Netgear DSL modems can't handle. You might want to
ask your (unspecified) ISP about the suitability of your DM200.
(Note: "m" = "milli" = 1/1000. "M" = "mega" = 1000000.)

Re: New Modem/Router for 20 mbs to 100 mbs
It depends on how they are upgrading the line.
The DM200 is a DSL modem. If it is simply a case of faster DSL then no problem. DSL comes in all manner of speeds from 20 Mbps to 100 Mbps and above.
But if it is different network technology, cable for example, then the DM200 won't work.

Does your "faster DSL" _not_ include "bonded DSL"?
https://community.netgear.com/t5/x/x/m-p/1708742
Or is this some new meaning for "no problem"?
As hinted earlier, some actual information about your new 100Mb/s
service might be helpful.

Re: New Modem/Router for 20 mbs to 100 mbs
I have been using Centurylink with this DM200 modem for about a year with no problems other than it seems slow at times when I have more than 7 devices on my home network (AC1750 R6400 v2). I contacted Centurylink for faster service and they sold me on an upgrade from the 20 mbps to 100 mbps. They did not offer information about the upgrade other than a technician will be coming out to set it up (at no cost to me - so they said). I would like to be proactive with the cost of a new modem/router if need be. Thanks for your input.

Sounds more like a marketing thing than technology.
You don't say if they will change the technology. (Did you ask?) ISPs can just "flick a switch" at their end and deliver a faster service.
Did you ask them if you need a new modem?
We are just guessing on the basis of the very limited information that you have provided.

This may sound radical, but you might try asking.

So, try being proactive about collecting the required information?

No, _one_ of us is guessing ("no problem"). One of us is asking
questions, and waiting (in vain?) for enough information to allow
providing some answers _without_ guessing.

Re: New Modem/Router for 20 mbs to 100 mbs
I went back to CenturyLink and asked the question whether they were going to change anything other than the speed from 20 Mbps to 100 Mbps and the Technical Support person (probably in India) said "the connection will be faster." I wasted 30 minutes in a chat because most Technical Support people in these chats use canned answers and do not know what they are talking of. I will wait for the Technician to come out on Monday...

Sadly, this is not a rare event. Technical support often causes more grief than is good for us.
My guess is that all will be well.
If your ISP has its own user forum, that is more likely to find answers from people who know what they are talking about. With luck its forum weill also be blissfully free of smartarses who make a hobby out of being as objectionable and offensive as they can be.

Possibly interesting result from a quick Web search:

What _I_ find "objectionable" are self-styled experts who make
"expert" pronouncements (such as "no problem") based on no actual
information. Ignorance may be blissful without actually being helpful.

Perhaps you believe that dumbarses are better?

Re: New Modem/Router for 20 mbs to 100 mbs on Dm200
I have heard various stories from both Smartarses and Dumbarses and it seems that my ISP (Centurylink) does use Bonded DSL to get speeds of 100Mbps. If I need to change my modem and router; any recommendations?

To deal with bonded DSL, you definitely need to change your modem.
An R6400v2 might continue to be satisfactory as a router.
I have no experience with or expertise on CenturyLink bonded VDSL
(only old, slow, ADSL). I have not tried shopping for a suitable
modem-only, to use with your R6400v2.
As I read:
everything which CL provides is a modem+router, but there may be other
(modem-only) options out there.
If you get a modem+router, then you might find it satisfactory by
itself. If not, then it may be possible to configure that modem+router
as a modem-only, and return to using your R6400v2 for all your router
functions.
If the only weakness of a modem+router is worse wireless performance,
then you should be able to configure the R6400v2 as a wireless access
point, to supplement or replace the modem+router's wireless
capabilities.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Look for "Use the Router as a
Wireless Access Point".

I don't think there has been any change since this message appeared:
Bonded DSL? - NETGEAR Communities
Nor any sign here of anything suitable:
DSL Modems | DSL Routers | NETGEAR
For "exotic" installations, best ask the ISP. Only it knows the exact details of its technology and what will play nicely with it.
This is one of several reasons why it can help to have independent modems and routers. Easier to replace modems while hanging on to the router.
