How odd! This doesn't authenticate to the ISP. The line trains, DSL LED goes solid green and UI shows up and down link speeds. Internet LED stays solid red. It never logs in to the ISP and gets an IP address. Went back to prior version and it logs in fine. Verified UID and password and they're correct, but no Internet. What should I look at?

It occurred to me to grab the log, here is the way it ended up. The last line just continues to repeat...

luke: sorry 🙂
w3: hmmmmm, there aren't many changes in firmware and nothing that should cause a problem with dhcp getting a lease - what is the specific firmware version that works and what version of Busybox is it using? Thnkx.

Here's what works...

The firmware version -

Firmware Version : 2017-03-17_3.1.22

BusyBox -

BusyBox v1.25.1

This is the first time I've ever had this problem.

It doesn't look like it's signing in which I'd guess has to happen before DHCP would offer up an IP?

w3: I think I will need a bit more to go on. What sort of connection do you have?
What is in the log of it working after 'Connection UP' please? (can email them to w3 AT richud.com if easier)
Comparing the codebase the only two relevant things changed are some code mods to dhcpc in busybox (most likely) and some mods for Luke with pppd (pppoe part) but they should only happen if setting the 'pppoe extras' entries.

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

@w3 is your WAN2 enabled or disabled? If it was enabled on the old firmware maybe it is blocking you now that there have been some work on top of that functionality.

Hello richud,

Would be possible to add fail2ban or sshguard features to firmware?

Thanks in advance

@richud

I can confirm what @w3wilkes is reporting, I am having the same issue on DGND3700v1, Annex A, after firmware update, everything fine and adsl connection gets enstabilished but no ip adress from isp and no internet connection.

Last working build is december one, had to switch back to it.

Uploaded latest, 2017-05-15, richud firmware but my router does not want to connect to internet it was the same with the previous version as well. After installing richud I couldn't and can't go online. I am a Sky user in UK. What am I doing wrong? Do I need to input some connection data to it?

@Luke, Yes - WAN2 was enabled. I've now disabled WAN2. Made no difference other than getting rid of all those DHCPC discover messages.

@rich,
Reloaded the 15 May firmware with WAN2 disabled. For this log I unplugged the DSL line and plugged it back in. It shows from the ADSL link down to as far as it goes.

Here's the same piece of log using the 17 March firmware. The starting of pppd that happens in the 17 March does not happen in the 15 May firmware. I don't know how that gets triggered. Is it something I could try to start manually by logging in to the router from Putty? If so, how?

Hi Chaps

Appologies, appears there is a problem with the pppd changes, have removed download link on wiki.

w3: I think you originally had WAN2 enabled and although will result in lots of needless dhcp requests on wan2 it wont cause a problem. Now that is all you are seeing though, as pppd isnt coming up from WAN1.

I presume everyone with a problem is using PPPoE connections?

I will do a rebuild without the pppd changes and then ask that you can try that and at least confirm that is the cause, then try and figure out what is the problem. Sorry!

for anyone who it isnt working - could you please tell;
1) connection type (pppoe, pppoa etc)
2) have you got wan2 enabled, if so, disable wan2
3) have you got a vlan ID set/enabled on wan1 unnecessarily?

cheers

@w3 & @ pietro: ok thanks for info, must be part of a patch (5 small ones) as they only alter pppoe behaviour.

This is build without the new pppd patches, so hopefully will work ok for everyone (except Luke!)

@yonesmit : they both rely on ipchains (well fail2ban definately does as use it on mail server! - it looks like other does too) and this firmware uses netgears proprietary acos stuff I am afraid.

@richud is there any way to ban and unban an ip? maybe using your nat.c to call any agApi_fw.... function in libnat.so

If we can ban/unban then developing the parsing of messages log and calling ban/unban can be done.

Thanks in advance
