Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

malp: port forwarding is for forwarding ports from the WAN to machines on your LAN. TBT is listening/running on the actual WAN interface/IP and thus nothing is being forwarded anywhere. That .json setting tells it to use uPnP to try to setup (IGD) NAT port mappings - I presume it will have no effect though as it ultimately won't do anything, other than waste a few cpu cycles.

As soon as transmission is up, you can use one of those 'open port' test tools online, give it your WAN IP and port 55555 and you will get a connection.

Incidentally using the web interface to change the settings does work as they designed it - stupidly - it only commits changes when the daemon stops. i.e if you want anything to persist you need to stop and start transmission on the web ui.

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

Hi Richud, Thanks a lot for the custom firmware works very well. Ad list site yoyo.org url doesn't seem to be working for me any more, the config doesn't accept host.txt file lists urls, do you know any alternate plain text urls that will work in Block List URL field?

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

@Somemad, sthanks - yoyo seems to be working for me? (just tried) so afraid I never looked at alternatives. How long haven't you been able to connect to it? @greazedlightning: did you get it working, I am 99% sure they are correct settings (I think login/pass can indeed be anything as they aren't checked) I am getting TT fiber on 19th Dec so I can say for sure then if you haven't got it working.

somemad: If you put the url in a browser, are you getting a plaintext file out (I am here) - I am at work though so can't check router though.... Is it saving a (0 byte) file to /tmp on the router (off top of my head it should be dnsmasq.adblock, or something fairly obvious)

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

Has anyone had trouble with their wireless since installing the latest (October) firmware?

I've had three occasions now where my Wi-Fi has gone weird. Either clients cannot connect despite the SSID being broadcast. Or clients do connect but never receive any data; this includes trying to load the remote admin page on the router.

On each occasion it was at a real inopportune moment so I didn't have time to break out a wired connect to diagnose further. Instead a quick reboot was the short term solution.

I never experienced this prior to this update.

Thanks Richud, i've come back after a few hours and i'm not sure why but it's working now, router able to access yoyo.org again and run ad block service. Also noticed i couldn't get to your site www.richud.com earlier so DNS issue perhaps. Might be happening randomly.

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

@ittroll , none of the original wifi bits are touched so I would be surprised, please post back if you ever find anything definitive. @somemad: ok 🙂 - suggest setting Network Settings > Additional DNS Server (DHCP) to a google server, 8.8.8.8 - this adds a third resolver so if your ISP ones fail you should still have working dns. [dnsmasq will always query all 3 servers for an answer, using first answer for max speed.]

Hi, I just moved to FTTC Fibre on TalkTalk and it uses IPoA like Sky rather than PPoE like BT etc.. I have found a problem I have solved but to fix it permantently I need to modify a bit of vlan stuff. I dont want to break anything! Could anyone using PPPoE on VDSL(fibre) (BT, EE etc.) please paste me the result of this after telnet/ssh in? $ param show wan and $ ps

Richud, is it possible to install your firmware to a DGND3800B, which is switched to Annex A by LuKePicci's firmware?

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

@spyridop, if you flash via TFTP it should just work I think as that will bypass check , doing it via the web interface you probably need to change the board ID in the firmware header from U12L144T01_NETGEAR_NEWLED (DGND3700) to U12L144T11_NETGEAR_NEWLED (3800) (it is at the start, offset 0x28) Not sure if there is a CRC to then fix or not. If not suggest looking/posting in Luke's thread as they will have experience of it (i am just guessing)

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

Hi! Sorry for my late answer, I was very busy with university and holidays. 🙂

Thank you richud and Malpd!
I'm using a new usb pen drive and now the transmission daemon works perfectly! The speed is normal and I can turn on/off the router without any problem!

However in reply to richud's post 576, if I don't enable port forwarding for the transmission daemon the port 55555 appears closed (tested with online open ports tools), while it appears open with port forwarding enabled. Maybe it doesn't change anything and you are right that it isn't useful.

I have a new question for you...I'm interested in accessing my router page (and transmission daemon control) remotely when I'm not at home. I have a dynamic IP, so every time I reboot my router my public IP changes. For this reason I enabled "Dynamic DNS" in my router and set it to work with my no-ip free profile. The problem is that it doesn't work. The IP in no-ip website is never updated. I know that in these case they suggest to download their client software on your PC to keep the IP updated, but often my PC is off, besides I don't understand the utility of the router's feature if I have to install the PC client.
Then I'd like to get the router's built-in feature to work. In the Dynamic DNS page I only set the basic settings, I don't know if the problem is in one of the advanced settings that are now all blank (I don't know how to fill in every space). Or should I try with another free Dynamic DNS service other than no-ip?
Thank you very much! 🙂

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

@jackal, its pretty simple, you only need to set 4 things. ( i am assuming you picked the hostname jackal and servebeer.com as the no-ip domain in this example)

dyndns service : no-ip.com
username: jackalsusername
password: jackalspassword
alias hostname : jackal.servebeer.com

there will be an entry in the system logs from inadyn to show you whats going on. It should say somehting like

Jan 9 00:01:17 (none) user.warn INADYN[1491]: Fri Jan 9 00:01:17 2015: W:INADYN: IP address for alias 'jackal.servebeer.com:auto' needs update to '78.45.231.18'...
Jan 9 00:01:18 (none) user.warn INADYN[1491]: Fri Jan 9 00:01:18 2015: W:INADYN: Alias 'jackal.servebeer.com' to IP '78.45.231.18' updated successfully.
Jan 9 00:01:18 (none) user.warn INADYN[1491]: Fri Jan 9 00:01:18 2015: W:INADYN: DYNDNS Server response: HTTP/1.1 200 OK^M Date: Sat, 10 Jan 2015 08:03:54 GMT^M Server: Apache^M Content-Location: update.php^M Vary: negotiate,Accept-Encoding^M TCN: choice^M Content-Length:

Then transmission web gui should be available on
http://jackal.servebeer.com:55555/

Remember updating dns resolution isnt instant.

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

Hi richud!
Unfortunately I already did what you've told me, but the IP in noip.com website is never updated.
Here is what I did:
I created a new host in noip website and the first time I gave my public IP manually, after that I set my router as you said, but it doesn't work. I've tried for more than a month without success. The IP in noip website remains the first one that I set manually. I also tried to update manually my IP in their website, but however it never updates after I reboot the router.

Besides I don't see anything in System Logs similar to what you posted. Actually in System logs it shows nothing new if I change something in Dynamic DNS page and apply the new settings...
Is there anything else I can try? Should I modify any settings in advanced options in Dynamic DNS page?
Now my remote management is still disabled because I'd like to be able to update my DNS otherwise remote management is not very useful to me. (I don't know if this could be a reason for my problems).

Thank you!

PS: I have a free "ddns.net" domain in noip.com.
And username and password in Dynamic DNS page are those of my noip account, aren't they?

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

Hi,
I finally setup the hard-drive as I've mentioned in a previous post.

The disk is composed of four primary partition mounted by the router in this way:

/dev/sda1 /media/DATI ext3 rw,noatime,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/sda4 /media/DCIM ext3 rw,noatime,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/sda2 /media/BACKUP ext3 rw,noatime,data=ordered 0 0
/dev/sda3 /media/TRANSMISSION ext3 rw,noatime,data=ordered 0 0

I have created a folder in dev/sda3 called "transmissionbt" and the service automatically create the configuration file needed.
I tried with a couple of torrent and it's working fine.

However, if i go under "Torrent Settings" in netgear Web interface it appears to not find the folder and leave me with this message:

"Requires '/transmissionbt' folder on USB media"

Re: New firmware with built in Torrent Client

@marco, that is rather strange as the code that generates that page just looks for the transmissionbt folder the same as the the bit making the config and starting it. Can you telnet/ssh into the router and run /etc/torrent.sh this should regenerate the webpage? If that doesn't work can you run this, and paste output find /media -maxdepth 2 -follow -type d -iname "transmissionbt"
