Nighthawk AD7200 slow, actual, upload speed

Download speeds are fast and consistent between online speed tests and Nighthawk app speed tests; however, upload speeds are widely off and inconsistent. Upload speeds within the Nighthawk app are around 25Mbps, but device testing shows wide spikes anywhere from < 1Mbps to 14Mbps. I'm testing from a computer connected by Ethernet and all firmware is up to date. Also, we're paying for 50Mpbs upload from Cox, connect to an Arris modem.

what arris modem is it connected to?

Have you tested it connected to the modem?

The modem is a Touchstone CM8200. I have not connected to it directly. I'll try that today.

Likely a stupid question, but how do I test internet speed connected directly to the modem? I assume that's what you're suggesting - to bypass the router?

yes, check your speed from the modem.

Disconnect the router from the modem and reboot the modem. Then connect a pc to the modem and try it.

See what speeds you get direct connected.

After you do that, you can power the modem down, reconnect the router, and re-boot the modem.
