Nighthawk and Orbi

Hi Everyone,

I’m after a little bit of advice. I’ve been running a D7000 in Modem / Router mode with my Orbi acting as AP for quite some time.

I wanted to take advantage of Disney circle on the Orbi so have switched my Nighthawk over to Modem only and my Orbi to router mode. All is working great and I’ve got internet on the devices. However. Should I be able to access the nighthawk management when connected to the Orbi LAN / WiFi?

Nighthawk - 192.168.0.1
Orbi Router - 192.168.0.100
Orbi DHCP range - 192.168.0.101 - 192.168.0.254

Only way I can connect to nighthawk is by plugging in direct to the D7000 and giving my laptop a static IP on the 192.168.0.X network.
Model: D7000|Nighthawk AC1900 VDSL/ADSL Modem Router, RBR50|Orbi AC3000 Tri-band WiFi Router

It is what it is. When in modem only mode you can only access it by the way you've discovered. You can factory reset, but then it's back to a regular modem/router.

Thats absolutely fine, I was just double checking it was designed to be that way and I hadn't done something wrong.

I just thought with it being on the same subnet it would be accessible.

Not a biggy though, can't see me needing regular access to it anyway when its in modem mode.

   Some wisdom.  What isn't?

The problem is that, as a modem, it has no IP address, so is not on
any subnet.

A DOCSIS cable-TV modem(+router) has a special address where it
responds, "192.168.100.1".  Interestingly, the DM200 also has a similar
special address where it responds when in modem-only mode,
"192.168.5.1".  But, so far as I know, none of the Dxxxx modem+router
models has such a feature.

Yup.  I'd guess that that was the original rationale for not
providing the feature.
