Option 61, and changing your PC

I have been using option 61 to connect to NOW TV fibre, using the MAC address (without the semicolons) of my main PC, as the Client Identifier String, however, I have now swapped out the m/b so it now has a different MAC address, does it matter?

   Apparently not.

   Other than being a medium-length, hard-to-guess, numeric string, I
don't see why your ISP would care about the MAC address of (a particular
Ethernet interface in) some particular computer of yours (which might
have multiple Ethernet interfaces, each with its own unique MAC
address).

Such DHCP options are involved in a negotiation between your
(modem+)router and your ISP; computers/devices on your LAN are not
involved.

If you're disposing of the old board, then I'd write that value down
in a couple of places, to avoid having to deal with your ISP to get that
option value changed in case the D7000[v2?] gets reset (or goes berserk)
and forgets it.

Re: Option 61, and changing your PC

I have just set up netgear d7000v2 with option 61 set to sky and internet works! I don't think it matters what you put in there as long as it's a string. Also note you do not need any password! I got my NOWTV VDSL fibre working within 5min!!!

Anyone who needs help please contact me. Everyone out there is over complicating the whole set up! You just need the right Modem/Router NO NEED for wireshark NO NEED for password! Just to be on safe side I did clone the MAC but I noted that before the clone it still did work! Seriously stop making things harder - if you are not that knowledged please do not post up things that are not required.

NOTE the same set-up I have also will work with SKY Broadband since both SKY and NOWTV are same companies sharing the same facilities.
