Password for wired connections?
Does anyone know if you can set a password for the ethernet wired connections on the modem/router?

Yes. You can't. Credentials are required for wireless connections,
because any passer-by might have a radio. Your wires are assumed to be
(physically) secure. What you can _do_ after you're connected to the
network (such as file sharing) depends on the requirements imposed by
the various devices on the network.

Thank you . Do you mean you can have a daddy computer also connected that controls whether the others can access the internet?

Not how I'd've phrased it, but there exist firewall appliances which
can control access to the Internet from any devices on your LAN, wired
or wireless. Perhaps it would help if you explained what your goal
might be.

I am trying to to stop my child from getting into trouble on the internet. He needs acess to some sites to do his homework. I have a family values router but he can plug his desktop straight into the netgear router and doesnt need a password. Would firewall software stop him doing that?
