Port Forwarding for Game Server

Port Forwarding for Game Server

So, I've got a PC that runs some games server and this all worked before I changed my router to the Netgear D7000v2 (Firmware V1.0.0.56_1.0.1). Since I've installed the D7000 I can't get this to work.

I've setup port forwarding as per the recomendations here: https://portforward.com/ark-survival-evolved/ (Steam Section).

So Port Forwarding on the D7000 looks like enclosed picture1.

I've also setup 192.168.0.101 as DMZ and that also doesn't work.

I've check this by trying to connect from external PC's to the server as well as doing basic tests at https://canyouseeme.org/ and all give the same answer that the service cannot be seen the on tested port.

It's not an ISP issue as this worked on the previous router/modem setup.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

There have been multiple reports here about NAT loopback not working
on a D7000v2 (which makes testing harder then it should be), but I don't
recall any complaints about port forwarding as a whole not working.

The usual problems with this stuff are:

   1. Wrong external IP address (different from the port-forwarding
router's WAN/Internet IP address).  (An intermediate NAT router, for
example, could cause this.  Or an ISP using carrier-grade NAT to
conserve IPv4 addresses.)

What is the IP address of the WAN/Internet interface on the D7000v2?
Does it match what you're using as your public address?

   2. Bad port-forwarding rule (wrong port(s), wrong target address --
including a wandering target).

Yours look plausible to me, if the server is at that address.
(Address reservation?)

   3. Server not listening on the port-forwarding target system.

Can you contact the server, from a system on your LAN, at its LAN IP
address?  (Normally, you'd then try using the router's WAN/Internet IP
address, but that test relies on "NAT loopback" (on the router) working,
which is in doubt on a D7000v2.)

   4. External influences: ISP blocking, other firewalls, ...

   Not likely.

I'd expect that to work about as well as proper port forwarding.

How many things changed between then (working) and now (failing)?

Re: Port Forwarding for Game Server

Thanks for the reply.

Both the external IP accrding the the router, the server are both the same so issue is not the wrong external IP. Both show 165.120.x.x

   2. Bad port-forwarding rule (wrong port(s), wrong target address --
including a wandering target).

Yours look plausible to me, if the server is at that address.
(Address reservation?)

192.168.0.101 is a static IP for that device and my DHCP is set to start at 192.168.0.150

   3. Server not listening on the port-forwarding target system.

Can you contact the server, from a system on your LAN, at its LAN IP
address?  (Normally, you'd then try using the router's WAN/Internet IP
address, but that test relies on "NAT loopback" (on the router) working,

I can connect to the server from Internal LAN

Just swapping from old Model/router to the D7000, nothing else has changed. The reason for the change was my ISP didn't support the old router/modem setup I had before so they suggested I change and I chose this D7000.

Thanks

Re: Port Forwarding for Game Server

You're just overflowing with bad news.

Presumably, the problem with your (unspecified) "the old router/modem
setup" was the modem.  One interesting experiment would be to configure
the D7000v2 as a modem-only, and (if possible) use the old router (or
router section of the old modem+router).  Look for "Use the Modem Router
as a DSL Modem Only" in the (error-riddled) R7000v2 User Manual.  (Visit
http://netgear.com/support , put in your (whole) model number, and look
for Documentation.)  If desperate, try different/older firmware (and/or
a settings reset)?

Lucky you.  Be careful with that model number.  I use a plain-old
D7000[v1], and bad port forwarding is not among its problems.

Re: Port Forwarding for Game Server

If you try the modem only route that Antinode suggests as an experiment and it doesn't work, be aware that the only way out of modem only mode on the D7000v2 is to do a factory reset. If you do this be sure to back up your modem configuration before you go to modem only mode so that after you do the factory reset you can restore your modem/router configuration.

Re: Port Forwarding for Game Server

Thanks both. After a few false starts with this router I now make a backup every time I make a change,

I've raised this as a call with Netgear to see what they say about it, so I'll hold off on making the Modem only change to see what netgear say.

Thanks
