Are you looking at the (WAN) MAC address or the serial number? Look
more carefully at thr product label.

In the picture of the "Bottom Panel Product Label" in the D500 User
Manual, there are four boxes: "WiFi Network Name (SSID)", "Network Key
(Password)", "Serial Number", and "MAC [address]". What, exactly, do
you see in each of these four boxes?
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. One of us may be missing
something.

No, that's a (twelve-character) Netgear MAC address. Visit
https://www.macvendorlookup.com/ , and try it.
I'll try again.
