SECURITY FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR MODEM BUT CANNOT ACCESS LOGIN
Version: 100AUS?
Firmware as supplied in Nov 2017
Plugged into Linksys WRT1200A running VPN
Windows 7 PC, and Windows 10 Laptop
I received an email saying to upgrade firmware of the DM200 modem which is a modem only (router disabled) so I can run the Linksys as a VPN, so checked the Netgear web-site to confirm, and yes, I need to update the firmware.
Disconnect the Linksys and plug laptop to modem by ethernet cable as no wifi on the modem, and low and behold cannot access the routerlogin.net page nor the IP address of the ISP. Netgear tells me to access by wifi which I cannot do.
Checked the Community topics only to find that maybe Kaspersky/Chrome was the problem, so uninstalled Kaspersky but still the same message.
How do I access the modem to upgrade the firmware?
Any help would be gratefully accepted as I am not as tech savy as some of you out there.
Thanks in advance.

First, it's "Lo, and behold!" Second, modem-only mode prevents
"routerlogin.net" from working. I don't know what "the IP address of
the ISP" means to you, but it doesn't sound good.
Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation. Get the User Manual. Read. Look for "Disable the
Modem's Routing Features and Use the Modem as a DSL Modem Only".
IMPORTANT:
After you disable the modem's routing features and the modem
functions as a DSL modem only, you can access the modem only
through a fixed IP address, which is 192.168.5.1. Therefore,
make sure that IP address 192.168.5.1 is not assigned to another
device on your network.
I'd try looking for it at "192.168.5.1".

Re: SECURITY FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR MODEM BUT CANNOT ACCESS LOGIN
Thanks for th prompt response.
Had already downloaded the manual and tried 192.168.5.1 but no response. Tried pinging it through CMD but times out. Have 192.168.42.1 but this is the VPN Linksys router.
I think the Telstra Gateway (Bigpond) is 101.183.255.254 which pings but cannot get access to the modem.
Any other suggestions?

Re: SECURITY FIRMWARE UPDATE FOR MODEM BUT CANNOT ACCESS LOGIN
You could try saving the current settings for the DM200 (page 73 in the manual) then reset it to restore its routing features (page 77). Then do the firmware update, go back to modem-only mode and either reload the settings or reconfigure the device.
