Set static IP with DGN2200 router
I want to set a static (external) IP address with a DGN2200 / N300 router but I can't work it out.
Previously my office had a ADSL line and it used a DG834PN router. We used IP1 as our external static IP address. This was set on the old router by specifying that static IP address on the basic connection screen. Nothing else was required to select the required static IP address.
Example here: http://www.pcwintech.com/showimage?file=files/screenshots/netgear-dg834pn/001.png (this is just a generic screenshot)
Now though with the new fibre optic line and a new router (DGN2200) I can't set the old static IP address (IP1). If I do then I lose the internet connection. Adding the provider's DNS servers doesn't help either. Instead I have to use the dynamic assigned IP (IP2).
The internet provider has said that it is my problem to set the IP address. We have the static IP1 address on our account (and a range around it) but it is up to me to set it up on the router.
The reason I'm doing this is so I can allow remote access an office computer in the local network. I've been forced into changing the IP address used to do this. But I want to know how to fix this in the future. Port Forwarding was set up easily enough on the new router and it works. I tried playing around with Static Routes but I'm not sure this was the way to do this.
If anybody could point me in the right direction it would be appreciated - apologies if this has been asked before.

Re: Set static IP with DGN2200 router
Setting a static address requires more than just the static address - you need to set the address, the subnet mask, the default gateway, and the DNS server entries - ask the ISP for the any addresses that you do not have.

Re: Set static IP with DGN2200 router
Thanks fordem.
So, where do I set this on the router (DGN2200) ?
The Internet Setup screen lets me set a static IP and DNS servers. But it doesn't let me add the subnet mask or the default gateway.

(it looks like other models will let you do this here - http://screenshots.portforward.com/routers/Netgear/WNR1000v2_-_Genie/Internet_Setup.jpg)

Re: Set static IP with DGN2200 router
In the first screen shot the router has been set for a connection that requires a login, in the second it has been set not to require a login.

Brilliant - I'd assumed the login was mandatory so I hadn't played with it.
I'll chase the provider up for the missing details and see how I get on.
