Does that mean some kind of DSL service, or what?  Have you asked
your ISP about your problem?

New installation, or replacing some other device, or what?

"???"?  Are you asking or telling?  Which "the ethernet wire"?  A
cable has two ends.  What, exactly, are you connecting to what, exactly?

Ethernet or DSL?  If DSL, does the ISP provide a list of requirements
for the modem?  A DGN2000 is pretty old, and can do only ADSL, not VDSL.

If your ISP-supplied equipment provides an Ethernet connection, then
a DGN2000 may be useless as a router, because it lacks an Ethernet
WAN/Internet interface.

"can't" is not a useful problem description.  It does not say what
you did.  It does not say what happened when you did it.  As usual,
showing actual actions (commands) with their actual results (error
messages, LED indicators, ...) can be more helpful than vague
descriptions or interpretations.

Visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your model number, and look
for Documentation.  Get the Setup Manual.  Read.  Look for the LED
descriptions and "Troubleshoot".
